Mrs. Helen Townsend of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Mr. Arthur "Art' Townsend, passed away at the Medicine Hat Hospital on Monday, December 6, 2004, at the age of 84 years. She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Penny (Wayne) Sinclair of Brooks, AB.; one son, Brent (Tony) of Medicine Hat; one daughter-in-law, Shelly Townsend of Lethbridge, AB.; six grandchildren, Aaron and Trista Townsend, Erika (Richard) Borthwick, Darren (Lindsay) Sinclair, Kevan and Colin Sinclair; two great-grandchildren, Arianna Sinclair and Emily Borthwick. Helen is also survived by two sisters, Marion Eichorn of Whiterock, B.C., Anne (Ralph) Uglem of Medicine Hat; one brother, William (Shirley) Proskie of Calgary as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur "Art' Townsend in 1986; one son, Terry in 1991; one sister, Pauline as well as one brother, John. Helen was born and raised in Medicine Hat. She completed her High School education and continued on at Garbetts Business College. She was employed in the Financial Industry through the Credit Union, Eatons, IAC and Hong Kong Bank as a Loans Officer and trained many future managers and CEO's. Helen was always active in sports. She participated in track and field as well as amateur softball in Junior High School winning the City Championships. She was a member of the Ukrainian Dance Troupe and enjoyed bowling and bridge. Helen was an avid bingo player and enjoyed knitting (dish cloths) and traveling, especially to Las Vegas. Some of her most memorable occasions would include the birth of her grandchildren, her 80th birthday and her travels to Las Vegas, Europe and Hong Kong. She will be forever loved and remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so one hour prior to the Funeral Service which will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, December 10, 2004, at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend John Theiss officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 102 Crestwood Square One, 1865 Dunmore Road S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 1Z8, or to the Medicine Hat and District Health Foundation, 666 - 5 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 4H6.

Mrs. Lucy Tomson of Bow Island, beloved wife of the late Mr. Melvin Tomson, passed away at the Bow Island Health Centre on Thursday, May 6, 2004, at the age of 88 years. Lucy's memory will be cherished by her seven children, Harry (Kathy) Tomson of Moses Lake, Washington, Stella (John) Wikkerink of Bow Island, Alberta, Jim (Virgie) Tomson of Akron, Colorado, Jack (Nicki) Tomson of Enterprise, Alabama, Ruth (Ron) Sebastien of Apeleka, Alabama, Rita (Ron) Tomson of Camrose, Alberta and Mary Zarback of Moses Lake, Washington. She is also survived by nineteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Fannie and Berdyne Hartshorn, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, one son-in-law, one grandson, seven brothers and one sister. Lucy married Melvin Tomson on August 16, 1939, in Kansas City, Kansas. Together they raised seven children. They lived in various places throughout their married life, spending seventeen years in Quincy, Washington. Lucy enjoyed the past seventeen years in Bow Island, Alberta. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at the Evangelical Free Church, 214 - 4 Avenue West, Bow Island, on Monday, May 10, 2004, between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. as well as one hour prior to the Funeral Service which will be held at the Evangelical Free Church on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at 2:00 P.M. Pastor Michael DeRidder and Pastor Harry Ruggles will officiate with interment to follow at the Bow Island Cemetery.
