SHIRLEY REIMER
1945 - 2007
It is with sadness that the family of Shirley Anne Reimer announce her passing which occurred on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at the age of 62 years. Shirley was born in Souris, Manitoba on May 27, 1945 a daughter to Cornelius and Maria Reimer. She was raised and schooled in Plumas and later Arden, Man. On May 25, 1963, she married Barry Wareham in the United Church in Arden. Shirley resided in different communities including, Neepawa, Brandon and eventually made Medicine Hat her home. Throughout her lifetime she was employed as a steel worker, waitress and in janitorial services. Shirley will be remembered as a giving mother, grandmother and sister who was quite humorous and fun to be with. She enjoyed painting, ceramics, reading, the piano and accordion but had a special knack for knitting. Her greatest achievement was when her children were born and she will be dearly missed by them: Rodney (Annette) Wareham of Calgary, Geraldine Trekofski (Kerry Denis) of Calgary, Jacqueline (Romanoff) Martin of Dunmore and Jason (Starla) Wareham of Roleau, Sask,; her grandchildren, Garet, Ashley, Kim, Cassie, Jenny, David, Kelsie, Derec, Jasmin, Jodi, Bobby, Jurnee, Rodney, Mike, Courtney, Austin, Ember, Zander and Zane; great-grandchildren, Jayden, MaKenna and Tayler; brothers and sisters, Mary (Ken) Lippert, Ernie (Sharon) Reimer, Clarence (Sandy) Reimer, Bill (Kathy) Reimer, Jim (Char) Reimer, Harvey Reimer, Maggie (Pat) Laevens and Beverley (Rusty) Mingo; a special friend, Lyle Wardberg as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Shirley was predeceased by her dad, Cornelius (1981), mom, Maria (1995), brothers, John (1986), Harry (1994); sisters, Violet (1985), Pauline (2004) and Phyllis (2006). 1921 - 2006
Mrs. Helen Reesor, beloved wife of the late Mr. Keith Reesor, passed away at the Club Sierra facility in Medicine Hat on Sunday, January 15, 2006 at the age of 84 years. Helen was born on April 2, 1921 in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, one of 7 children born to John and Amy Leslie. She married Keith Reesor on September 30, 1944. She was a devoted wife and mother. Her duties were many as the family raised cattle and grew their ranching operation but she always had time for her family. Family came first and they remember her for her cooking and baking - she made the best pies around! Helen also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and making quilts. Her crafty abilities were also evident in the poetry she would write and the paintings she had done in earlier years. Helen will be remembered by her children, Eric (Margo), Lyle (Karen), Shane (Emmy), Dan, Scott (Theresa), Kevin, Jeanne (Bill) Hanson; 25 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; brothers and sisters, Bob Leslie, Jeanne Gilchrist, Dave (Donna) Leslie; brothers-in-law Franklin Reesor and Hugh (Darlene) Halladay and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her Husband, Keith in 2004; sisters, Jessie and Midge and a brother Jim. PHILIP RAPSON
1934 - 2006
Mr. Philip Rapson, beloved husband of Beverly Rapson of Bow Island passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2006 at the age of 71 years. Phil's courageous battle with cancer came to a peaceful end with his family at his side. Phil¹s memory will be forever cherished by his 3 children and 15 grandchildren: Cindy (Gordon) Reynolds and their children, Kristin (Aaron) Sturgeon, Erin Campbell (Jason), Matthew Campbell, Shannon Reynolds (John), Jill (Kent) Gjerlaug and Ian Reynolds (Michelle). Rob (Margie) Rapson and their children, Sarah (Jordan) Kienzle, Diana, Samantha, Tessa and Philip. Bonnie (Vince) Kindopp and their children, Tanner, Cassia, Kaden and Bryce. Phil was also Great-grandpa to Austin, Zack, Connor and Ruby. Phil was born May 21,1934, in Medicine Hat, the third child of Philip and Ruby Rapson. He was born a farmer and at a very early age began helping his father on the land homesteaded by his grandfather north of Winnifred. He received his schooling in Winnifred and Bow Island as well as Olds College. Phil married Beverly Hillestad in 1956 and they built their own home a mile west of the homestead and in time began their family. Phil was proud of being a farmer and most importantly of operating a third generation, family farm. He was very proud that the Rapson farm was passing to the fourth and fifth generations as its centennial approaches in 2008. Phil's love of being on the land undoubtedly led him to be an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and skiing. He read a great deal and loved to travel. He really cherished his annual trips south with Bev and the new friends they made over the past 15 years. Phil was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Bow Island Elks and one of the early members of Bow Island Fish and Game. Phil is also survived by his sisters Mary Nell (Ken) Berger and Margie (Gordon) Blanchard; brother in-law, Roger (Jo) Hillestad as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Phil was quietly proud of his home, his family and his heritage. Our dear Husband, Dad and Grandpa will truly be missed. The Private Funeral Service was held at St. Andrew's United Church on Thursday, February 16, 2006. Reverend Sandra McMillan officiated the service and Private Interment followed at the Bow Island Cemetery. WILLIAM WILSON RAE
1917 - 2006
William Wilson Rae passed away peacefully on February 24, 2006 at the age of 88 years after a lengthy illness. Bill was a longtime resident of Medicine Hat and spent his whole life in the area. He was predeceased by his wife Ethel (Bunty) in 1997; his brother, Bob and his parents, James and Katherine. He is fondly remembered by his three sons, William Jr. (Karen) of Medicine Hat; David (Jeanette) and Donald (Donna) of Calgary, as well as seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Bill grew up on a farm just north of Crescent Heights. As a young boy he had a natural talent for things mechanical, often tinkering with the family car or keeping the old irrigation pump running. In 1941, he volunteered to join the RCAF and was stationed in England serving as a fitter-armourer. Upon returning to care for his parents, he took over the family farm. In 1948, he married Bunty and together they raised kids, hogs, horses, cows, corn, registered seed potatoes and anything they could to make a living. In 1953, he sold the farm and went to work at J.I. Case as a heavy duty mechanic. Later, he started his own business doing general mechanical work. Often in the evening and on weekends he could be found at a farmer's place in the area repairing their tractor or baler. In 1966, Bill went to work in the "patch" for North Canadian Oils, Canadian Homestead, ICG Resources, and finally as field superintendent for Bralorne Resources. He ran a tight ship and enjoyed the challenges he encountered but especially the many friends he made over the years. The family wishes to thank the Leisure Way Group Home for their compassionate care of Bill over the past several years. 1927 - 2006
Mr. Ernest "Ernie" Remfert, beloved husband of 56 years to Mrs. Jeanne Remfert, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at the age of 79 years. Ernie was born on February 2, 1927 in Olds, Alberta a son to Reinhold and Emma Remfert. As a young boy the family moved to Schuler where he was raised and educated. He turned 18 in the Yukon. He went there to work in the Giant Gold Mine. Following his stint in the gold mine, he worked as a heavy duty mechanic. He met Jeanne in Olds and were married in 1949. In 1952 they moved to Alsask where he began his career in the Hotel Business. His career seen him throughout different locations and afforded him the opportunity to serve the business he knew so well. He was active in both the Saskatchewan Hotel Assoc. and the Canadian Hotel Assoc. Ernie could be described as an adventurist! He built and flew his own airplane... he earned his pilots license and he sailed boats as he was a Chartered Yachtsman. These accomplishments were achieved after the age of 40 - with his wife by his side. His zest for life enabled him to communicate with people of all ages. He especially liked to talk to the youth to see their perspective on life. Ernie was an active member of the Shriners and joined the Mounted Patrol and was an active Rotarian. Family was very important to him and the gatherings around the supper table during special occasions was held dear in his heart. Besides his wife Jeanne, he will be forever remembered by his children, Ronald Remfert and his children, Danny, Ashley and Sarah; Barbara Frerichs and her children, Luke, Dane and Saul; Jo-Ann (Darrell) Christensen and their family, Jordon Simek, Joshua Simek, Cory (Chad) Hoskins and Trisha (Rod) Coutts; Janice (Tom) Dickin and their family Katelyn and Seth; sister, Edna Finch of Medicine Hat; brother, Albert Remfert of Corpus Cristi, Texas and a sister, Lillian Wright of Salmon Arm, B.C., as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Albert Rath of Tilley, Alberta passed away on Friday, April 7, 2006 at the age of 89 years. Albert leaves to cherish his memory three children, Harold (Roberta) Rath of Medicine Hat, David Rath of Tilley, Beverley Rath (Dutch) of Lethbridge; four grandchildren, Raymond (Nicole) Rath, Perry Rath, Ryan Peard, Brandi Peard; three great-grandchildren, Madison, Tyler, Mitchell; one sister, Lydia Smith of Calgary as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Albert was born in 1916 at Tot Hill, Alberta. He started farming at fourteen years of age, spending over twenty years in the Mannyberries area before moving to Tilley in 1970. He continued farming in the Tilley area until shortly before his passing. Lorna Euphema Ronneberg passed away at the Bow Island Health Centre on Sunday, May 21, 2006, at the age of 80 years. Lorna is also survived by her brothers, Robert Henry and Norman Henry; Sister, Alvina Shirley, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Chester and Elemyn Henry; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Joseph Trembecki; grandson, Jeffrey Daniluk; great-grandsons, Kameron Hermann, Devon Trembecki, Ryan Robinson; son-in-law, Brent Somner; sister, Verna Rinehart and husband Jim; brother, Alvin Henry; brother-in-law, Philip Shirley and sister-in-law, Lorraine Henry. Lorna was born in Calgary, AB., on July 1, 1925. She moved to Bow Island in 1999. Her passions were her animals and country living. Mrs. Winifred 'Jeanne' Remfert, beloved wife of the late Mr. Ernest 'Ernie' Remfert, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at the age of 78 years. Jeanne was born on November 14, 1927 in Olds, the fifth of eight children but the first of her siblings to be born in Canada. She was raised just northwest of Olds and it was there that she met her future husband, Ernie. On October 29, 1949 they were married and celebrated 56 years of marriage. Together they ventured in the hotel industry which provided an opportunity to reside in different locations before making Medicine Hat their home. For many years she was a devoted member of Ladies of the Shrine Auxiliary and she will be missed by the Rotarians as she delivered fruit baskets for the judicators of the Rotary Music Festival. She enjoyed the simple things in life including traveling with her husband but she was always grounded to her family. She loved her children and grandchildren... all children! Family was very important to her and the gatherings around the supper table during special occasions were held dear in her heart. WILLIAM ROBBINS
1918 - 2006
Mr. William 'Bill' James Robbins, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Winifred Robbins, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Sunday, October 8, 2006 at the age of 88 years. Bill was born on January 21, 1918 in Paddington, London, England, a son to Arthur and Violet Robbins. He was raised in England where he enlisted with the British Royal Engineers. During this time he met Winifred and they were married on September 11, 1943. Due to some coaxing from his brother-in-law Albert, Bill and Winifred and their young family came to Canada and settled in Medicine Hat. He worked in fields that varied from car sales, house painting (which he operated his own business) manager of the Moose Lodge and retired from government security at CFB Suffield. Bill was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and an active member of the Moose Lodge. He devoted much time to their cause and achieved the highest honour being the Pilgrim Degree of Merit in 2003, Moose Legion of Honour and was dedicated to public service in speaking to school students about drug awareness. Family was important to Bill especially his grandkids and he made sure he had fun with them clowning around! He loved the outdoors and all it has to offer... camping, the mountains, year round picnicking and of course, fishing. Bill will be remembered as a good natured "giving man" and will be missed by all who knew him. Opal was predeceased by her first husband, Robert Hantelmann; her daughter, Carol Hantelmann; her son, Bob Hantelmann as well as a special brother, William Snyder. Opal retired early from her position as bookkeeper with Keith Consulting Engineers Ltd. to become the caregiver for members of her family. She enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening and handicrafts. She relocated to Medicine Hat in 1995 to be closer to her family. Spending time with her family was her greatest enjoyment. Mrs. Emilia Roeder, beloved wife of the late Mr. Helmut Roeder, passed away at the Sunnyview Care Facility on Friday, February 18, 2005 at the age of 81 years. Emilia leaves to cherish her memory one son, Glenn Roeder and his children Diamond, Chase and Dawson; two daughters, Veronica (Phil) Plaksey and their children Bradley (Kristi) and Aaron, and Lynette (Bill) Jarvis and their children Krista and Kyle (Chelsey) all of Medicine Hat. She is also survived by one sister, Amanda (Ed) Hunt of Calgary and two brothers, Ed (Lorraine) Mauch and Clarence (Helen) Mauch all of Medicine Hat; a sister-in-law, Alice Mauch of Creston, B.C., as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Gotthielf and Paulina Mauch; brothers, Oscar, Albert and Herb Mauch. Emilia was born on January 22, 1924 at Hilda, Alberta. She was raised and educated in the Hilda area. In 1943 she married Helmut Roeder and settled down to farm in the Hilda district. They moved to Medicine Hat in 1969 where she spent most of her time taking care of her family. Emilia loved to go camping and enjoyed going to the cattle shows and rodeos with Helmut. She was an avid and dedicated Medicine Hat Tigers Hockey fan and had season tickets for many years. Emilia was a loving and caring wife and mother and a very special grandma. She spent many hours with her family and was always there when they needed her. Emilia will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Leslie Ross of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of Anita Ross, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2005 at the age of 72 years. Les was predeceased by his mother and father, Ruth and Bill Ross and three brothers, Richard, Ray and Mike. Les was born in Didsbury, Alberta on September 17, 1932, then moved with his parents to Manitoba where he grew up in various towns. In 1973, he met Anita and they were married in Winnipeg. They then moved to Okotoks and Calgary where Les worked as a heavy-duty mechanic. In 1977, the family moved to Medicine Hat where Les was employed as Shop Foreman for S&M Kenworth. When Kenworth shut down, the family elected to stay in Medicine Hat and Les opened his own business Viking Diesel & Truck Repair Ltd. He retired in 1997. Les enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. ETHEL RISK
1915 - 2005
Ethel Risk, cherished Mother and Nana at 89 years, passed her test on earth and joined the kingdom of heaven on Tuesday, April 26, 2005. She leaves to cherish her memory four children: daughter, Shirley Hurren of England, Peter (Bernadette) of Medicine Hat, Christopher of Durham, On., Douglas (Janice) of Medicine Hat; five brothers and sisters, Doris, Bessy, Mary (Ray) Branson and Peter all of England, Brian (Sue) of Australia as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ethel's four children have created twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren ~ Thirty-Eight in Total! They are spread like seeds in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia and Yellowknife. Ethel was predeceased by her husband, Charles; two brothers, Harry and Dave Rann; two sisters, Emily Makewell and Helen Elvin as well as beloved granddaughter, Susan Hurren. Ethel was born in England in 1915 to David and Rose Rann. In 1934, she married Charles and they made their home at Enfield, Middlesex, England. It was through the war years that they had their four children. Many times, Ethel had to take the children to an air raid shelter as bombings occurred while Charles was out with Home Guard. In 1951 the family immigrated to Canada where they settled and farmed in Ontario. As the family grew and left the nest, Ethel and Charles moved West to Alberta and made Medicine Hat their home in 1974. She became an Auxiliary Hospital Volunteer and served for 23 years making many great friends as she had all her life given and received wonderful memories. Her zest for life was unlimited and with all this she remained the most caring Mother and Nana to all her many siblings. So we will share her Celebration Of Life with God as God welcomes her as another helper with the Angels. "God Bless, We'll Meet Again" Ethel's wish was to please donate some love and caring to those in need. Mr. Douglas Albert Renschler, beloved husband of Mrs. Janet Renschler of Suffield, passed away in Medicine Hat on Wednesday, September 14, 2005, at the age of 67 years. Along with his loving wife Janet, Doug leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Doug Renschler (Ted Bass), Robert (Ann) Renschler; grandchildren, Colton, Johnathan and Vincent as well as great-grandchild, Anika. He is also survived by brothers and sisters, Dorothy (Louis) Simon, Roger (Bev) Renschler, Garnieth (Joan) Renschler, Carol Bishop (Jim), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Julia Renschler as well as his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Verna and John 'Jack' Witts. Doug was born on August 7, 1938 in Bow Island, and farmed in the Burdett and Bow Island areas for many years. He later moved on from farming, becoming the owner and operator of Burdett Plumbing and Heating. The most recent years would see Doug retire with Janet to Suffield where they have resided until his passing. In his younger years he was an avid cowboy, and he always held a passion for hunting. He will be remembered dearly by all who knew him. HAROLD ROSSLER
1947 - 2004
Mr. Harold Rossler, beloved husband of Dr. Linda Rossler, passed away peacefully while in the comfort of his home in Medicine Hat on Saturday, May 15, 2004 at the age of 57 years. Harold was born in Castor, Alberta on January 9, 1947, a son to Fredrick and Amelia Rossler. He attended elementary and Junior High school at Spondin, Alberta and completed his high school in Hanna. Following high school he attended SAIT. On April 18, 1987 he married Linda, in Regina, Saskatchewan. Harold was a certified HVAC Technologist but was also a good handyman. He enjoyed carpentry, tiling and general home renovations. He once built a home in the Queen Charlotte Islands! Harold liked to read, play golf, watch hockey, smoke salmon and was a life member of Kinsmen. Harold was very much dedicated to his wife Linda, and relocated with her from province to province. He was a caring and humorous individual who always wore a smile on his face. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and his three teacup poodles that he called "The Little People." Besides his wife Linda, he will be remembered by a son, Dean Terry Schmunk; a sister, Laurie of Richmound, B.C.; brothers, Chester of Medicine Hat, Norman (Louise) of Calgary, Gordon (Grace) of Calgary, Bob (Joan) of Hanna and Sam of Edmonton; sisters-in-law, Heather Greer of Rhiyad, Saudi Arabia, Dorothy Phillips (Larry) of Sparwood, B.C., Shelly Gauthier (Len) of Maple Ridge, B.C.; brothers-in-law Ian Beebe (Nadine) of Maple Ridge, B.C., Lyle Beebe of Mission, B.C. and Wade Beebe (Justine) of Maple Ridge, B.C.; parents, Richard and Louise McKibben of Maple Ridge, B.C. as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Fred Rowe of Medicine Hat, unexpectedly passed away in his home on Friday, July 23, 2004 at the age of 65 years. KEITH REESOR
1917 - 2004
Mr. Keith Reesor, beloved husband of Mrs. Helen Reesor, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Sunday, October 10, 2004 at the age of 87 years. Keith was born on April 2, 1917 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. He was raised on a ranch in the Cypress Hills and attended Cypress Hills School, grades 1 through 8. He completed the rest of his schooling at Raymore, Saskatchewan. Keith enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in 1943 and started basic training in Maple Creek before being transferred to Red Deer. He married Helen Elizabeth Leslie on September 30, 1944. True to his roots, he became a cattleman and rancher and was certified as an AI Tech in 1957 (dealing with exotic breeds including Brangus) and continued until the age of 80 years. He was a licensed order buyer and operated K & S Livestock. Keith enjoyed life and all there was to offer. He loved music and dancing, birds and wildlife, playing cards, baseball, pool, roping, horses and of course, cows, cattle drives and trail rides. His most memorable cattle drive was that of the Western Stock Growers Centennial Cattle drive of "96. Keith was involved in many clubs and associations. Keith's relentless drive and determination will be fondly remembered by his family and friends. Besides his wife Helen, he will be remembered by his children, Eric (Margo), Lyle (Karen), Shane (Emmy), Dan, Scott (Theresa), Kevin, Jeanne (Bill) Hanson; 25 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; a brother Franklin James Reesor and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Keith was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Hazel Reesor and two brothers, Milton Reesor and Allan Reesor. It is with regret that the family of Mr. Bill Russill announce his passing on Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at the Club Sierra Continuing Care Facility at the age of 89 years. Bill is survived by Phyllis, his loving wife of 66 years; a daughter, Judi (Pete) Feurer of Calgary; three sons, Jim (Dixie) of Medicine Hat, George (Judy) of Elkwater and Garth (Gaye) of Medicine Hat; eleven grandchildren, Jennifer Feurer (Lorrie Matheson), Paige Feurer (Brian McCulloch), Stephanie Russill, January (Dan Baugh), Scott (Jen) Russill, Dalyce Russill, Jeff (Jen) Russill, Kristyn Russill (Curtis Rausch), Chad Russill, Nicole and Kelli Russill and a special great-grandson, Logan Russill. He is also survived by one brother, Jack (Eileen) Russill of Swift Current; two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Elaine Russill in 1995; three sisters and one brother. Bill was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan to Sadie and Alphonse Russill on August 13, 1915. Bill started his early working days delivering newspapers and bread by horse and wagon. In 1941, he started a long and satisfying career as a Trainman/Conductor with Canadian Pacific Railway at Swift Current and transferred later that year to Medicine Hat. Bill retired from the railway in 1976 and enjoyed many years of friendship with fellow retirees at the Pensioner's Club. A Service to Honor and Celebrate Bill's Life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13th Street S.W. Medicine Hat on Saturday, October 23, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor George Brandt officiating.
