It was at this time that Dad gave up a contract to play professional soccer in Hanover, Germany, but when playing in Medicine Hat was fortunate enough to have won several championships on local teams. One of Dad’s favorite pastimes he enjoyed and became rather tenacious at was his fishing. Whether it was in the summer or ice fishing at winter, it was always a great and pleasant challenge for him. Some of Dad’s many occupations over the years included working in the sugar beet fields near Taber, the CPR, the Glass factory in Redcliff, IXL industries, logging in BC, the City of Medicine Hat, Riverside Nursing Home, Hill Homes, and finally Pyramid pipelines. He was a great worker, and mainly a man of the construction industry. In 1961, he married Joyce Wahl, and spent almost 48 years with Joyce until her passing last June. Her passing truly broke his spirit and his heart.

“Your hard work on earth is finished Dad, we are happy you are at peace and once again with the love of your life, our Mom.”

This is where she met her future husband, William Kramer. After their marriage, she came to Canada as a warbride, settling in the Broadacres area of Saskatchewan. This became their home where they farmed for nearly fifty years. During this time, she enjoyed the life the farm offered...from raising farm animals to growing big gardens. She had quite a greenthumb! Kathleen was a devoted mom and liked to keep her kids entertained by going Christmas caroling and singing for amateur hour contests. In her day, she was known for her singing, tap dancing and her impersonations of Gracie Fields and Shirley Temple. She liked to attend the war-bride reunions and relive those days. Kathleen knew her way around the kitchen and baked lots of bread and cinnamon buns for her family. She will be remembered for her love of tea! For her family, 3:00 P.M. will always be 'Tea Time' and they will fondly rekindle her words " I¹ll have a nice cup of tea with my tea". Kathleen will be lovingly remembered by her 4 daughters, 2 sons, a brother and sister; a sister-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, William Kramer; her second husband, Frank Smith; a son, Michael and a grandson, Clayton Rogers. In a dignified manner, Kathleen's family quietly said their goodbyes during a prayer of remembrance. A heartfelt appreciation is extended to Dr. Viljoen, the staff at the Good Samaritan Society and a very special thank-you to the staff at the Riverview Care Centre for their excellent care shown to mom.
