HARRY WALTON HOBBS
1929 - 2006
Harry W. Hobbs of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of Margaret Hobbs, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Saturday, February 25, 2006 at the age of 76 years. Along with his wife Margaret, Harry leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Kathy (Kevin) Friesen and their sons Bryan and Derek; Sharon (Ron) Henschel and their children, Daniel and Megan. He is also survived by one sister, Helen Hobbs of Saskatoon; two brothers, Norris (Betty) Hobbs of Georgetown, Ontario, Harcourt (Eileen) Hobbs of Lethbridge; one sister-in-law, Muriel Rogers (Bill) of Medicine Hat as well as three nieces and one nephew. Harry was born in Biggar, Saskatchewan on August 2, 1929, and was raised in Ruthhilda. He married Margaret Hunter in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan on October 12, 1957. That same year, Harry moved to Southern Alberta. He relocated to Peace River in 1963, then to the Provost area in 1966, finally settling in Medicine Hat in 1973. He called Medicine Hat his home up until the time of his passing. Throughout his lifetime, Harry worked in a number of different fields, including selling real estate and irrigation equipment. He was also an agriculture Fieldsman and grounds supervisor at the Medicine Hat College for 19 years. Harry was a member of Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church as well as numerous service groups. Some of those service groups included the Golden Kiwanis Club, the Echo Dale Farm Society and the Medicine Hat Food Bank. He enjoyed cross country skiing, photography and travel... especially on airplanes. Harry gave generously of his time through volunteer work, and cherished every moment spent visiting with friends and family who will miss him dearly. A Memorial Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Leroy Angle officiating. Private Interment will take place prior to the service. Rose Pearl Phyllis Hanson passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 13, 2006, in her 71st year. Rose is formerly of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan and was predeceased by her husband, Stubby in 1999. She leaves behind a legacy of love to all her family and friends. At Rose's request, there will be no memorial services. All are encouraged to pray for her in their own manner.

FARRIUS HEINZ

Mr. Farrius Heinz, beloved husband of Mrs. Jeanette Heinz of Medicine Hat, passed away at the Sunnyview Care Facility on Monday, July 31, 2006 at the age of 68 years. Farrius was born on August 28, 1937 in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, the youngest of 14 children born to John and Cecilia Heinz. As a young adult he worked in pottery, construction and at a pea factory before beginning a new career. His new found position was at NorthWest Nitro where he remained a loyal employee, even seeing through the sale when it became Western Co-Op Fertilizers until its closure in 1987. During his career, he and Jeanette purchased a half section of dryland and farmed it for many years. They made a move to Brooks for two years, returning to Medicine Hat in the early 1990's. Farrius enjoyed music and liked to play any kind of instrument that might present itself to him. Camping and fishing were some of the simple things in life that he loved to do. He also was very talented in woodworking - he meticulously crafted small wooden cars to the finest of detail. Besides his wife Jeanette, he will be dearly missed by his daughter, Sharee Cann and her children Mathew and Alexander; his son, Darren (Danette) Heinz and their children Danielle and Darek. He is also survived by his sisters, Katie (Peter) Deis and Magdalena Herter and a brother, Henry (Margaret) Heinz as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Farrius was predeceased by his parents, John and Cecilia Heinz; 7 brothers, 2 sisters and 2 siblings in infancy. CLARENCE HENCHEL

It is with sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Mr. Clarence Henchel, beloved husband of Mrs. Loretta Henchel, who departed this life at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at the age of 73 years. Clarence was born in Medicine Hat on February 16, 1933, a son to George and Louise Henchel. The family resided south of Suffield, along the South Saskatchewan River. This is where he spent his childhood years. He attended country schools before completing his high school education at Alexandra High School. On July 3, 1954, he married Loretta in Medicine Hat, where they comfortably settled in and called it home. Clarence was well known for his dedication to the insurance industry. His entire professional career was spent in insurance as owner/operator of Gaffney Henchel Adjusters, Henchel & Co. Adjusters and Craven-Hall Insurance. During this time he met many people and earned the respect of all. His separate life apart from his work was his family. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, snow skiing, boating, fishing and camping. He was always up for playing board games, cards and going to Tiger hockey games. Clarence was also handy around the house and enjoyed doing repairs in their home and at the cottage in Elkwater. He was a man of giving nature and gave back to the community as a member of the Kinsmen, K40's and as a longtime member of Riverside Presbyterian Church, he participated on various church committees. The greatest act of giving, was the gift of life... Clarence was a longtime blood donor. He will be remembered for his generosity, integrity and sparkling eyes with his big smile! Besides his wife Loretta, he will be cherished in the hearts of his children and grandchildren, Thomas (Wayne) Henchel; Tannis (Wes) Henchel Roth and their daughter Alexa; Stephen (Sheila) Henchel and their son Cody and daughter Courtlyn; a brother, Gord (Loesha) Henchall; two sisters, Lorna Price and Greta (Bob) Parker as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents George and Louise Henchel and a brother, Gerald Henchel and a brother-in-law Eugene Price. EDWARD WALTER HEEG
1923 - 2006
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend. Ed Heeg passed away peacefully on October 24, 2006 in the Sunny View Care Center in Medicine Hat at the age of 82 years. Ed was born on December 29, 1923 in Estuary Saskatchewan as the oldest of four sons born to Gottfried and Mary Heeg. After spending some time in Estuary the family moved to the farm southwest of town. Ed attended Saskedge School; a country school two and a half miles from home. Together with his three brothers, Ed learned the three R's at Saskedge, but they also learned how to play baseball and as he grew older baseball was a big part of his life. He played many games for Empress Baseball teams becoming well known as an excellent catcher. Ed also began his life long vocation of farming. In 1941, together with his Father and Brothers, he purchased a section of land in the Acadia Valley area. In 1948 they purchased the Moore farm southwest of Acadia Valley. This farm was Ed's pride and joy and remained so for his entire life. On July 5, 1950 Ed married Ida Gill. They lived on the farm in the summer time and in Empress in the winter. Like his Mom and Dad, Ed and Ida were blessed with four sons: Ken born in 1951, Howard born in 1954, Larry born in 1958, and Tim born in 1971. In 1967 Ed, Ida and family moved to Medicine Hat and commuted to the farm in the busy seasons. In 1976 they decided that the farm was the place they wanted to live so they built a new house and returned to the farm. They tried semi-retirement in 1995 but the farm was always calling Ed and in 2003 they returned to the farm once again. They lived there until Ed's failing health forced his move to the Sunny View Care Centre in Medicine Hat on September 26, 2006. Ed had a deep love for his family, Agriculture, especially the cattle industry, but most of all for his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Wherever he lived, Ed was always involved with the Church Council holding many different offices over the years. In the later years Ed got a lot of enjoyment from watching sports, especially hockey on T.V., and was an avid Edmonton Oilers fan until his battle with dementia took all that away from him. Ed leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of fifty six years, Ida; sons, Ken of Solvang, California, Howard (Linda) of Phoenix Arizona, Larry (Rita) of Acadia Valley, and Tim (April) of Acadia Valley; grandchildren, Jim, Rhonda, Angela, Scott, Steven, Greg, and Alli; brothers, Albert of Saskatoon, and Robert of Burstall; sisters-in-law, Vi Anhorn and Pat Heeg of Medicine Hat, and Dorothy Heeg of Saskatoon; brother-in-law, Milton Gill (Helen) of Victoria, B.C.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Gottfried and Mary Heeg, his brother, Herbert Heeg, as well as his parents-in-law, August and Emma Gill, and sister-in-law, Mildred Heeg. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so one hour prior to the Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 1:00 pm in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 515, Sprague Way, S.E., Medicine Hat, with Pastor Fred Rink officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lutheran Hour or St. Paul Lutheran Church building fund. "Seek first the Kingdom of God and his Righteousness and all these things shall be yours as well" (Mt 6:33).

Robert (Bob) Fredric Huntley Sr. of Medicine Hat, Alberta, peacefully passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Friday, November 10, 2006 at the age of 68 years. Robert's memory is cherished by his loving wife, Meterna Huntley; children, Robert Jr. & Jayne Huntley; Jacolyn Huntley & Michael Garcia; Scott Huntley. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Bellows; brother-in-law, Eric Smith; grandchildren, Kirah & Robert Huntley III and Taylor Anna Garcia. Robert is predeceased by his parents, Charleton & Martha Huntley; father and mother-in-law, Roy & Theresa Schlosser; his 4 sisters, Phyllis Smith, Lila (Irvine) Leslie, Dorothy (Harry) Hobbs, Isabelle (Jack) Wyatt and brother, Donald. Bob was born and raised in Medicine Hat and was a proud member of the Redcliff Legion Branch #6 for 35 years. Bob very much enjoyed playing the bagpipes for the Medicine Hat South Alberta Pipe Band for almost 20 years. Bob and Meterna were married on November 12, 1966. During his journey, Bob retained his sense of humour and positive attitude. Bob's wish was not to be mourned, but rather to celebrate his life. Bob continues to be a role model for his family...even in passing, as he donated his corneas so that someone may enjoy the gift of sight. A very special mention to Gerald & Edna Folk and Ted & Phyllis Schmauder for your overwhelming support to Meterna & Bob during their journey. Mr. Rex Hazelaar of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of Mrs. Lynn Hazelaar, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, December 11, 2006 at the age of 87 years. Rex was born on November 11, 1919 in Holland, a son born to Harm and Mary Hazelaar. He married Lynn Bronk on January 18, 1951 in Holland. A short time later, they immigrated to Medicine Hat on May 11, 1951. For 20 years, he owned and operated Dutch Bros. Painting. With a strong work ethic, he enjoyed renovating and selling homes until his retirement. He was hardworking until the end. Although he was a busy man, he always made time for his family through travel, swimming, painting on canvas and playing chess with grandchildren. He was a fun loving grandpa! Rex was very involved in the First Christian Reformed Church and later attended Hillcrest Church where he sang in the Men's Choir. Rex was a loving partner, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by his wife of 56 years, Lynn; his children, Harry (Sherry), Jackie (Richard), Margaret (Vince), Janet (Lyle), Pauline (Steve), Erica (Mark); 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Hank (Rita) and a sister, Bep (Bill) as well as numerous relatives in both Canada and Holland. Martha Irene Harback of Bow Island, passed away while surrounded by the love of her Alfred Egan Home family, on Thursday, December 28, 2006, at the age of 73 years. Martha is survived by 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Martha was born February 1, 1933 in Valleyview, Alberta. She lived at home with her family until moving to the Michener Centre in Red Deer, Alberta in 1945. In 1993, Martha moved to the Alfred Egan Home in Bow Island where she met many friends who will miss her. Martha enjoyed people, traveling and parties. She had a great sense of humour which she expressed by laughing at herself and at the staff. Martha always enjoyed going on vacation, whether it was a day trip or an overnight stay. One of the highlights of her life was an Alaskan cruise. While going on this trip, Martha had the opportunity to experience several different modes of transportation. She was able to fly on an airplane , ride on a bus, and float on a ship. She took pleasure in seeing many of the sights at various ports and was able to purchase several souvenirs. One of these items was a doll wearing a fur coat which was added to her doll collection. Martha loved babies and enjoyed visiting with children. She would very gently hold and kiss babies before giving them back to their mother. At Christmas, staff remembers Martha pointing to the Christmas tree angel and affectionately calling it "tree baby". It seems very appropriate that Martha was called home to be with her maker at her favorite time of year, Christmas. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by the staff and friends at Alfred Egan Home. A Celebration of Martha's Life will be held at the Alfred Egan Home, 1st Street East, Bow Island on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at 2:00 p.m with Reverend Gary Aicken officiating. It is with sadness that we, Jessica, Renee and Randal, announce the passing of our dad, "Tony' Roy Anthony Hawkes, who passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, March 21, 2005 at the age of 56 years. Tony was born on August 20, 1948 in Timmins, Ontario, a son to Roy and Rosaline DeMarco Hawkes. He later moved to Medicine Hat where he has resided until the time of his passing. On January 9, 1984, he started his career with the C.P.R. Two years after gaining employment, he was promoted to Conductor in 1986. Tony embraced his new position until 2003 when failing health forced him into early retirement. Tony believed that "knowledge was power' and true to his belief, when he learned of his illness, he prepared himself for battle, armed with knowledge! He researched alternative methods of treatment for cancer.. focusing on herbal and mineral treatments and demonstrated a healthier way of living. With his power of knowledge, Tony shared what he learned with others in a strong effort to help those with similar conditions. He was a fighter.. and he made his family proud! Tony was at peace with his illness and he lived his life. In his words to his family, "I did it my way'. Tony will be remembered by his children, Jessica (Joey) Hawkes and their children, Brenden and Jordan of Stony Plain, AB.; Renee (Thomas) Hawkes and their children Dominick and Sofiallia of Calgary and Randal (Lindsay) Hawkes and their unborn son Noah (due in May) of Medicine Hat; his mother Rosaline DeMarco Hawkes of Medicine Hat; brother, Wayne Hawkes of Dawson City, Yukon; sister, Linda Lust of Edmonton as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Lifetime resident of Medicine Hat, James William "Bill' Hogg, passed to a softer place on April 22, 2004. Bill spent his childhood, along side his Dad involved in Boy Scouts, once being chosen to travel to Churchill, Manitoba to attend a jamboree where he met Scouts from all over North America. His high school years were spent playing football, playing drums in a band with his friends in the basement and fulfilling his role as Roxi's "cool big brother with that rebellious long hair". Bill went on to work along side his Dad. After getting over some hurdles in his life, he went back to school to become an Engineering Tech in order to continue this work. Eclipsing his school accomplishments was the birth of his daughter, Aliya. Bill was so proud to be a dad that Aliya was soon followed by Andrew and Shayna. He shared each accomplishment of his children with pride to all who would listen and they gave him much to be proud of. He carried them in his heart 'til the end. Left behind to remember the good times are Bill's wife, Sue and his children Aliya, Andrew and Shayna; his sister Roxanne (James) Dautremont; his brother Bob Stevenson and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. His Dad is there with open arms - J.H. Hogg and his Associate together again. Walter is survived by one daughter, Joyce (Frank) Teel of Medicine Hat; three grandsons, Robert (Dorothy) Teel of Calgary, Timothy (Sonya) Teel of Medicine Hat, Randy (Kathy) Teel of Medicine Hat; and six great-grandchildren, Phillip & Mark Teel of Calgary, Matthew & James, Ryan & Carly Teel of Medicine Hat. He is also survived by one sister, Rose Rowe of Medicine Hat and one Brother, Harry (Irene) Hanschar of Portland, Oregon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13th Street S.W., on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Loren Hosfield officiating. Following the service, cremation will take place. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Walter's name may be made directly to the Diabetes Education Centre, 666 - 5th Street S.W., Medicine Hat, Alberta T1A 4H6.

MARLA HUPKA
1963 ~ 2004
On January 27, 2004, Marla Hupka peacefully passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital at the age of 40 years. Marla is survived by her loving husband Steve; her father Alex Hupka; three loving siblings, Ronald, Beverly and Desmond; her "Western Mom and Dad' Glenda and Aldo Pederzolli; her "Eastern Mom and Dad' June and Jim McLeod as well as her eastern friends, numerous nieces, nephews, friends and her cherished pets Spunky, Joe and Ziggy. Marla was predeceased by her Mother Audrey Hupka in May of 2001. The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bob Findley officiating.
