ANNE L. FARNHAM
1950 - 2006
Anne Lillian Farnham, beloved mother of Rochelle (Jarrod) Biffart of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at the age of 55 years. Along with her daughter, she will be lovingly remembered by her parents, Robert and Lillian Griffiths of B.C.; one sister, LeeAnn Bennet and her children, as well as numerous close friends. Anne touched many lives. She enjoyed lending her musical talents and time to her family, church and many friends. Her love for animals was always evident and she will forever be remembered for her great sense of humour. Relatives and friends are invited to gather and celebrate memories of Anne in the Church Hall at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, 635 - 4 Street S.E., on Friday, June 30, 2006, at 2:00 P.M. HOWARD FODE
1940 - 2006
Mr. Howard Lawrence Fode, beloved husband of Mrs. Jeannette Fode of Redcliff, peacefully passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at the age of 66 years. Howard was born on May 25, 1940 in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. In1967 he met his future wife, Jeannette. They embraced each others families and blended together to form a solid family which included 7 children. For many years he worked as a heavy equipment operator and found himself in control of 'Ukes and Cat's'. He later gained employment with the City of Medicine Hat working in the Gas & Utility department for 23 years before his retirement in 2002. Those who knew Howard will remember him as a patient but stubborn fellow. He loved tinkering in the garage and would sooner build something than buy it. He enjoyed the great outdoors as he was an avid hunter and fisherman in his day. Very special to him was his faithful dog, Lucky. Since April of this year, Howard had resided at the River View Care Centre, and not a day went by that Lucky didn't go to see his master. Also very special to him are his family who are left to cherish his memory: his wife, Jeannette; his children: John (Annette) Engel, Kelly (Donna) Engel, CheréScott) Brown, Rick (Barb) Fode, Vicky (Frank) Allen, Rick (Michelle) Engel and Wendell (Brenda) Fode; grandchildren, Ashley and Sean; Tiffany (Jaret) and Andreà Terra (Jared) and Krista; Brendon, Blaine and Rae-Lynn; Justin (Kristen), Jordan (Crystal) and Jennessa; great-grandchildren, Carson, Dreyden and Kaidyn; a sister, Delores (Don) Bischke; 4 brothers, Robert Fode, Lloyd (Marcy) Jans, Jim (Carol) Fode and Dennis Fode as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Howard was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Irene; a daughter, Tammy Fode and a granddaughter, Rachelle. WALTER FRIESZ
1926 - 2005
Mr. Walter Friesz, beloved husband of Mrs. Irene Friesz of Medicine Hat, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Friday, February 4, 2005 at the age of 78 years. Walter was born on September 14, 1926 on the family farm near Golden Prairie, Saskatchewan. He later met and married Irene Bauer on November 29, 1952. In his younger years he gained employment with the C.P.R. which sparked his already keen interest in trains. Following his days on the railroad, Walter began a rewarding career in farming which lasted 37 years. During his career he had an 'Old Oliver' tractor that he was quite fond of. Walter retired in 1987 and then moved to Medicine Hat. With the true work ethic of a farmer, he never let grass grow under his feet... he was always on the go! He enjoyed visiting friends and family... which normally meant he would tease them and keep good company. Walter liked fishing, gardening, playing cards and woodworking. He made many flower pots, planters and mailboxes. The time best spent, was time he made for his family. He loved playing and kidding with his grandchildren. Walter will be missed but kept near the hearts of his family including his wife Irene and four children, Larry (Barb), Wayne (Jacque), Sandy (Kelly) and Barry (Donna); 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; a brother Harry (Faye) and two sisters, Frieda and Gladys (Joe) as well as many nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by a sister, Alice and a granddaughter, Denise. Those wishing to, paid their respects at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, on Monday, February 7, 2005, between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at 11:00 A.M. with interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery. LORNE FISCHER
1934 - 2005
Mr. Lorne Vernon Fischer passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at the age of 70 years. Lorne is survived by two brothers, Eldon (Elaine) of Redcliff and Duncan (Bernadette) of Parksville, B.C.; sister-in-law Lorna (Lloyd) Fischer of Edmonton; brother-in-law Glen (Doris) Delaney of St. Albert, AB.; and the two special people in his life, his dear friend Annie and his niece Lynn. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Susan (Wade) Brehm and their children David, Lindsay and Kelsey of Cypress, Texas; Kevin (Joanne) Fischer and their children Kristin, Abbey, Justine and Aiden of Richmond, B.C.; Lynn Fischer of Medicine Hat; Donna Kniel and her children Ian and Emma of St. Albert; Bridgette (Fred) Nash and their children Alannah and Sydney of Spruce Grove, AB.; Charlene (Darryl) Freitag and their children Kieran, Aiden and Anneliese of Elliot Lake, Ont.; David (Jen) Fischer, Cathy Fischer, Jeff Fischer and Maureen Fischer all of Calgary as well as numerous cousins in Canada and the United States. Lorne was predeceased by his parents, George (1967) and Pauline (1991); brother Lloyd (1976) and sister Doris Delaney (1995). Lorne was born on September 1, 1934 at home near Golden Prairie, Saskatchewan. He moved to Redcliff in 1944 and then to Medicine Hat in 1997. He started school at the Salamis Country School near Golden Prairie and completed his education in Redcliff. Lorne was employed at the Redcliff Glass Plant for 38 years, working in several departments during that time, finishing as a glass mould inspector. He was a very keen sports enthusiast and participant. Lorne could name all the major league sports teams and most of the players and their statistics. He enjoyed golf and curling and was a keen competitor. His early morning golf outings with George, Russ and buddies was always a highlight of his day. He also enjoyed his time spent curling in the Seniors and Legion Leagues at the Medicine Hat Curling Club. Lorne was also an avid fisherman and won several trophies over the years (pictured above). He was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion in both the Redcliff and Medicine Hat branches and was a member of the Moose Lodge. ELIZABETH "LIZ" FLEET
1949 - 2005
Liz Fleet, beloved wife of Kevin Fleet of Seven Persons, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, May 16, 2005, at the age of 56 years. Along with her husband, Liz leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters, Lisa Haber (Larry) and their children Shelby and Colby; Andrea Pearce (Noel) and her children Robert, Kaylea and Ty; her mother, Anna "Betty' Troyan. Liz is also survived by nine siblings, Cathi (Ric) Bivar, Monica (Vince) Collins, Michael (Colleen) Troyan, Patricia (Roy) Johnson, Beverley (Butch) Schindel, Joan (Jim) Lewis, Teresa (Allen) Hettinger, Joseph (Skip) Troyan, Virginia (Craig) Aspinal, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Stephen Troyan, two brothers, Larry Troyan and Ton Troyan, as well as one nephew, Dwayne Troyan. Liz will be forever loved and remembered by all who knew her. ELAINE FARMER
1934 - 2005
Elaine Farmer, beloved wife of Irwin Farmer of Medicine Hat, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2005, at the age of 71 years. Besides her husband Irwin, Elaine leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Joanne Farmer (Denis Pajot); a son, Michael (Laurie) Farmer; grandchildren, Scott and Ashley; sister, Ilys (Lloyd) Gray as well as one brother, Ed (Faye) Pattison. Elaine was predeceased by her mother, Jean (Ernest) Vessey; father, Wilbert Pattison and sister, Dorothy (Lloyd) Jackson. Elaine was born in Benito, Manitoba on June 23, 1934. She married Irwin on August 6, 1953 in Kenville, Manitoba. They lived in Flin Flon, Manitoba and moved to the Swan River Valley in 1955 where they farmed until moving to Medicine Hat in 1969. Elaine's passion was curling. She was a member of the Medicine Hat Curling Club where she participated in the women's afternoon league. After retirement, Elaine and Irwin traveled throughout Western Canada in their motor home and enjoyed camping every summer at Elkwater. Her favorite destination was Maui, Hawaii, where she enjoyed a family vacation last year. Elaine lived life to the fullest and will be remembered for her sense of humor, her compassion for others and the grace with which she lived her life. The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Tuesday, September 13, 2005, at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend James Farrell officiating. Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery. The family has requested that casual attire be worn by all in attendance. GRANT FINNIE
1932 - 2004
Mr. Grant Finnie, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 26, 2004, one day after he and his wife, Mary, celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary which was on September 25, 2004. Grant was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on September 2, 1932, a son to William "Bill' and Bertha Finnie. He was raised in Saskatoon where he played Peewee Hockey in the church league and continued to play hockey in the Oldtimers League until the age of 55, when health issues forced him to 'hang up his skates'. Grant had many proud moments in sports which included coaching the Swan River Imperials to the league championship and playing and sponsoring a fastball team. His proudest achievement was his family: Sandra (Kim) Buchanan of Minitonas, Manitoba, Cheryl Finnie of Irvine, Chris (Jack) Long of Cardston and Ken (Angie) Finnie of Medicine Hat. His ten beloved grandchildren are Les (Corry) Finnie, Jim, Donald, Kevin and Jolene Buchanan, Amy, David, and Sarah Long, Camille and Mackenzie Finnie. He also leaves to mourn, his brother, Jim (Margaret) of Kelowna, B.C. and his sister, Pat (Paul) Upthegrove, Idaho; sister-in-law, Viola (Sam) Pederson of Rimbey, Alberta as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Grant worked in the automotive business for Bowman Brothers (Acklands) and was transferred to Swift Current and Swan River. In 1972, he moved to Medicine Hat when he purchased Finnie Tire. Along with his partners, he also operated Westar. Grant was a Rotarian and a member of Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church.
