ELIZABETH DEGAGNE
1921 - 2009
Mrs. Elizabeth G. De Gagne of Calgary, formerly of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Emile De Gagne, passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Thursday, December 24, 2009, at the age of 88 years. Elly is survived by a son, Robert (Cheryl) De Gagne and their children, Raymond, Paul, Dennis and Gregory of Edmonton; a daughter, Valerie De Gagne of Calgary; a son, Dr. Theo De Gagne of Vancouver and a daughter, Carmel Love (Michael) and their children, Michelle and Christine. She was predeceased by her husband, Emile, as well as her brother and six sisters. Elly was born in Kellen Germany on January 23, 1921. Her family then moved to Geffen, Netherlands where she grew up with her brother and six sisters. With her twin sister, Hedy, they worked together designing dresses and hats. Elly moved to Canada in 1949, where she met her husband, Emile De Gagne in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Together they raised four children, Robert, Valerie, Theo and Carmel. Following the death of her husband in 1970, with a remarkable strength of character and devotion to her family, she carried forward the family business, owning and operating Columbia Catering in Medicine Hat for 25 years. Elly was an active member of the Roman Catholic Church and was a fervent supporter of Missions in developing countries. Defined by her devotion to family and loyalty to friends, she encouraged all those around her to fulfill their potential. Elly placed great value on facilitating her children’s access to post secondary education and was herself an avid reader, focusing on history and politics. She appreciated art, music, speaking five languages, and took great pleasure gardening, knitting, cooking, cross country skiing, and never missed a Grey Cup game. Elly enjoyed many trips to Holland, visiting her family and also enjoyed traveling throughout Europe. Her greatest achievement was how many lives she positively impacted along the way, in her business with her family; sharing her extraordinary strength, compassion, understanding, and a smile for everyone. Vigil Prayers will be recited at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at 7:00 P.M. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 238 - 2 Avenue N.E., Medicine Hat on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend Father Gilles LeBlanc celebrant. Interment will follow at the Hillside Cemetery.

FREDA I. DOLING
1934 - 2009
Mrs. Freda Isobel Doling, beloved wife of the late Mr. Herbert Doling, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, December 14, 2009, at the age of 75 years. Freda Isobel (nee Schreiner) was born June 10, 1934, at their home near Gravelbourg, SK. She grew up and went to school in the Vanguard area. Freda married Herbert Doling on June 13, 1952, and moved to his farm at Aneroid, SK. They farmed at Aneroid until 1974, and then moved to the Weyburn area where they bought an Abattoir. They continued to run the family business until her husband, Herb, passed away. Freda was a loving and a devoted wife and mother. She loved having her family together and would plan family gatherings for all occasions. She moved to Medicine Hat in 1988, to be closer to her family where she resided until her passing. Freda was very out going. She loved rodeos, camping and all family occasions. Every Christmas was very special for Freda as decorating her house and having her family together was something she looked forward to every year. Freda is survived by her children, Chelaine Louise Doling of Langley, B.C., Blaine Marcel (Dawn) Doling of Seven Persons, AB., Blake Morris Doling of Tilley, AB.; her loving grandchildren, Cheryl Berg, Jessica McKenzie, Mike Doling, Shanley Doling and Kohl Strawford as well as her great-grandchildren, Kyler Doling and Morgan McKenzie. Her memory will also be cherished by her sister, Lornie Talbott. Freda was predeceased by her parents, Mathias and Evelyn Schreiner and her loving husband, Herbert Doling. Those wishing to pay their respects are invited to do so starting one hour prior to service time. HERVE DUBOIS
1924 - 2009
Mr. Herve DuBois, beloved husband of Mrs. Lydia DuBois, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at the age of 85 years. Hervê was born on September 8, 1924 in Coderme, Saskatchewan. As a young man he enlisted in the RCAF and spent the next 26 years in service, retiring in 1975 as a Master Warrant Officer. During his career, he was stationed invarious locations throughout Canada including Cold Lake, Alberta where he and his family resided for 30 years. On November 10, 1951, Herve and Lydia were united in marriage and was blessed with the birth of a daughter, Gloria. In his retirement years he enjoyed fishing and spent quality time with his grandchildren, teaching them how to fish. Hervê was a ‘happy go lucky’ fella who always remained positive. This quality, along with his sense of humor drew the attention of those around him. He was very likeable and was affectionately known as “Granpa” to the many exchange students that were hosted in his daughter, Gloria’s home. Known to be frugal at times, Herve, had a heart of gold and always made sure his family was looked after. He loved the family pet dog, Sydney and always had a stash of treats in his pocket for her. Herve will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his wife, Lydia; daughter, Gloria (James) Bailey; grandhildren, Mark (Chantal) Sakowich, Darren (Jennifer) Sakowich and Kendrah (Bill) Wells and their children, Madison and Logan; a sister, Hermine Syrenne; special caregiver, Gloria Almoros as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Eva DuBois; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Elias and Zofia Korowec and a brother, Raymond DuBois. The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13th Street S.W., on Friday, October 30, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Gloria Angle officiating. Lorna DeWispelaere of Medicine Hat, beloved partner of Walter Shelley and cherished daughter of Verona Boylan, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at the age of 55 years. Along with Walter and Verona, Lorna’s memory will live on in the hearts of her daughter, June DeWispelaere and June’s children, Kyle and Brianne; three brothers, Gord, Doug and Mike; one sister, Eula as well as three nieces and two nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Eric Astleford and one sister, Shirley. Family and friends will honour Lorna's life through a celebration in Victoria at a later date. Mr. Wells Darling, beloved husband of Mrs. Margaret Darling of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at the age of 83 years. Along with Marg, Wells leaves to cherish his memory: daughters, Sharon (Barry) Burns of Kingston, ON., and Nancy (Hal) Osborn of Lethbridge, AB.; son, Ray (Debbie) Darling of White Rock, B.C.; step-sons, Grant (Connie) Felesky of Dubai, U.A.E., and Blair (Jaquie) Felesky of Rocky Mountain House, AB.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Verna (Al) Vader of Toronto, ON., and Elinor Mitchell of Los Angeles, CA. as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Wells and Anna Darling; daughter, Wendy Darling; brother, Stanley Darling, and step-son, Troy Felesky. In 1975, Wells moved to Medicine Hat on a business venture with Hat Development. He stayed busy with numerous business developments in Medicine Hat, and for a short time, even tried his hand at farming and ranching. Before retiring at the age of 80, along with Marg, Wells owned and operated the Liquor Kabinet on Carry Drive. He will be dearly remembered by his family and many friends. A Come and Go Celebration of Wells' life will be held at the Medicine Hat Lodge, Ballrooms B and C (TransCanada Highway and Dunmore Road S.E.) on Friday, August 7, 2009, between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Those attending are encouraged to share special memories of Wells throughout the celebration. MAUDIE DOBSON

Mrs. Maudie Dobson of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of Mr. Allan Dobson, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at the age of 72 years. Her memory will be cherished her husband Al and a son, Brian (Jaquie Brandt); two brothers, Bob (Edith) Kerr and Alfred (Elsie) Kerr; two sisters, Elsie (Barry) Rose and Dorothy (Elwood) Hepper as well as numerous nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts. She was predeceased by her parents, Alfred & Tina Kerr and a sister, Jean French. Maudie was born into this world on August 15, 1936 near Melfort, Saskatchewan, a daughter to Alfred and Tina Kerr. On January 28, 1957, she married Al Dobson. Maudie passed just one day before they would have celebrated 52 years of marriage. During their marriage they settled in various communities including Regina, Yorkton, St. Albert, Vernon and most recently Medicine Hat where they have made their home since 2000. For many years she worked as a cashier at a bowling alley which was convenient due to the fact she enjoyed to bowl. In her younger years she could be found at her favorite camping spot. She was the designated driver when it came to driving the boat while fishing and made sure to find where the fish were. Maudie liked the company of friends and family alike and had lots of fun in their company. JOAN DONGWORTH

Mrs. Joan A. Dongworth of Medicine Hat, silently passed away while surrounded by her family at the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at the age of 79 years. Joan was born in Cadillac, Saskatchewan on July 3, 1929, a daughter to proud parents, Albert and Eleanor Webster. Although she was born and raised in various communities in Saskatchewan, she became a fan of watching Edmonton Eskimos football and Edmonton Oilers hockey. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was good with a needle and thread sewing and making quilts. Throughout her lifetime she achieved many milestones and one in particular was the celebration of her 60th birthday. Joan's memory will be cherished in the hearts of her children including sons, Ken Dongworth of Edmonton and Rob Dongworth (Michelle Cismas) of Medicine Hat; a daughter, Cindy (Ken) Laschowski of Two Hill; eight grandchildren, Casey Dongworth, Nicole Dongworth (Chris), Douglas Laschowski, Sarah (Lyle) MacDonald, Chelsea (Travis) Stafford, Daniel Benedict, Jeffrey Laschowski and Jordan Vasquez; three great-grandchildren, Kaine and Kalli Stafford and Meredith MacDonald; four sisters, Doreen Butz, Zena Robinson, Rose (Frank) Lang and Elsie (George) Roszell; one brother, Albert (Judy) Webster as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She loved her pet dogs, Max and Squirt. VIOLET DORGE

Mrs. Violet Alvera Dorge (nee Goldie) passed away quietly while in the comfort of her home on Friday, March 7, 2008 at the age of 85 years. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Gordon (Pam) Dorge of Pincher Creek and one daughter, Lorraine (Larry) Lozo of Medicine Hat; four grandchildren, Jodi Bond, Darren (Linda) Dorge, Lori Lozo and Leanne (Sean) McGillis as well as numerous great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, George in 1995; her parents, John and Helen Goldie; brothers, John and Tom and a sister, Catherine. Violet was born on the family farm in southern Saskatchewan, where she was raised and then met her husband, George. Vi and George lived in Thompkins, Saskatchewan for many years. This was home and was the place their children were born. Later in 1948, the family moved to Fort Macleod and then to Medicine Hat in the '60's, where she resided until her death. Vi worked for many years in the food industry and in the motel and private cleaning services. Mom was always very passionate about her work and expected it to be perfect, a trait in which she instilled in her family. Violet was a wonderful mother and grandmother who always put her children first and foremost above anything else. Mom loved to bowl when she was younger and always enjoyed camping and fishing with George and her family. She also liked to watch sports especially curling and baseball. Vi became an avid Blue Jays fan and knew most of the players by name! The memories she left behind will be deeply cherished by her family and friends. JOHANNES DOOLAAR
1922 - 2008
Johannes (John) Doolaar, beloved husband of Magdalena Doolaar, peacefully passed away at the Good Samaritan Facility on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the age of 85 years. Johannes was born on November 13, 1922, in The Netherlands, a son to Frans and Hendrike Doolaar. With The Netherlands being home, it was there that he married Magdalena van der Sluis on October 25, 1950. The family moved to Canada, first settling in Ottawa where he started a career in the printing industry with R.L. Crain, and spanned 25 years finishing in Medicine Hat. Throughout the years, John proved to be devoted to many organizations and affiliations including the Royal Canadian Legion, Kiwanis Club and the Christian Reformed Church. John also served in Indonesia with the Dutch Armed Forces. For many years, John sang in the Choir at the Fifth Avenue United Church and with the Adele Armstrong Singers. He was passionate about his wife and family whom he enjoyed spending time with going on annual camping trips as well as family adventures to the Gatineau Hills. He also liked to attend the Spring Tulip Festival in Ottawa, reading, puzzles, gardening and going for walks to take in the beauty of the nature around him. John's deep faith was an inspiration to all who knew him and he will be sadly missed by his wife, Magdalena; children, Frans (Sandy) Doolaar, Margaret Doolaar, Evelyn (Mark) Beaton, Lucille (Murray) Scheidl and Johanna (Tracy) Kisell as well as 10 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Frans and Hendrike Doolaar; two brothers and one sister in The Netherlands. The Funeral Service will be held at the Christian Reformed Church, 300 Primrose Drive S.E., Medicine Hat on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor George Koopmans officiating. MURIEL DEAN
1922 - 2008
Mrs. Muriel Dean, beloved wife of the late Mr. Ronald Dean passed away peacefully in Medicine Hat on March 16, 2008, at the age of 85, to be with her Lord and Savior. She leaves to cherish her memory two children, John Dean and Nancy Thompson; five grandchildren, Jordan Sarah, Devin, Jessie and Erinn. Muriel is also survived by two sisters, Rotha and Mavis; a brother, David and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother, Jessie Baines; her father, Bill Baines; one infant daughter, Janice Darlene Dean, and her husband Ronald Dean, in 2004. Muriel was born on November 27, 1922 in Red Deer, Alberta. Upon completing high school in Red Deer she attended secretarial school in Calgary. This was followed by employment with the T. Eaton Co., where she met her husband. She also worked at Loblaws and was the secretary for the Christian Community Church at Mount Royal College, Calgary for many years. In 1993, Ron and Muriel moved to Medicine Hat for retirement. Muriel had many interests including spinning, weaving, quilting and sewing, along with a good cup of tea! She also enjoyed yearly family vacations to the Shuswap (Copper Island Resort) and the Kootenays. Muriel and Ron's gift of hospitality resulted in their home being open to many over the years. Muriel especially enjoyed the ladies bible studies and sewing circle that met regularly in her home and always cherished their friendships. Through Muriel's quiet strength, compassion, and Christ like life, she became a spiritual mentor to many. We rejoice in knowing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. A private family graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery on Friday, March 28, 2008 with Pastor Wade Lorentzon officiating.

THERESE DUFRESNE
1919 - 2008
Therese, beloved wife of Albert Dufresne, was called to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 7, 2008, at the age of 89. She was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba into a large family. She was the last survivor of 14 Goulet brothers and sisters. The Goulets resided at Dollard, Saskatchewan. Therese attended school there, and excelled winning a governor general's award. After working for two years with the Grey Nuns in Edmonton, she returned home and married her sweetheart, Albert Dufresne. They were happily married for almost 68 years, raising three loving children. Therese was a devoted wife and mother and later in life she found she had a real talent for painting. Some of her interests were reading, fishing and boating. Her main joy was, keeping in touch with the family she came from and the family she raised. During her married life she resided in Dollard, also briefly in Lisieux, SK. and Marysville, BC. Together with Albert, she resided in Medicine Hat for most of their retired years. Besides her loving husband Albert, Therese is survived by her son, Gerald (Elaine) Dufresne of Medicine Hat; grandson, Denis (Lynae) and great-grandson, Jochanan of Calgary; granddaughter, Rachelle (Darren/deceased) Milton of Medicine Hat and great-grandchildren, Dylan and Jordan; daughter, Adele (Nick/deceased) Zbrodoff of Lethbridge; granddaughter Tracy (Kam) Bullock of Lethbridge, grandchildren Brittany and Kylie, grandson, Scott Zbrodoff of Calgary; son, Gilbert (Wendy) Dufresne of Brooks, and grandson, Jeremy. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Goulet and Armande Goulet; one brother-in-law, George Allen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. One sister-in-law, Dorothy Dufresne, passed away two days before Therese. Therese was a kind, gentle loving person who will be missed by all of her family and friends. Her family will miss her daily prayers, which have guided and protected them throughout the years. Firmin Philemon (Phil) DeLeenheer, beloved husband of Mrs. Hilda DeLeenheer of Bow Island, passed away at the Bow Island Health Centre on Friday, May 2, 2008, at the age of 87 years. Along with his loving wife, Phil leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Randy (Bernice) DeLeenheer and Ken (Shelley) DeLeenheer; five grandchildren, Paula Malz, Randi Deleenheer, Kenny DeLeenheer Jr., Vanessa Hamilton and Alex Watt; eight great-grandchildren, Hayden Malz, Marina Malz, Austin Hamilton, Carson Hamilton, Sydney Hamilton, Kyla Watt, Emily Watt and Logan Watt. He was predeceased by his parents, Phil and Anna DeLeenheer, as well as four brothers and three sisters. Phil was born on August 30, 1920. He was raised and educated in Chase, BC. On July 24, 1949, he married the then Hilda Barnes in Gibsons Landing, BC. Phil was a past member of the Masonic Lodge (Mt. Elphinstone, BC.) as well as the Old Time Fiddlers of Williams Lake, BC. Along with fiddling and dancing to old time music, Phil enjoyed time spent camping and hunting. He looked forward to all family gatherings and will forever be remembered as a great husband, father, grandfather and friend. A come and go celebration of Phil's life will be held downstairs at the Royal Canadian Legion in Williams Lake, BC., on Saturday, June 7, 2008, between 1:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M. MELBA DEERING
1925 - 2008
Mrs. Melba Deering, beloved wife of the late Mr. Herbert Peter Deering, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at the age of 82 years. Melba leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Barry (Edna) Deering and family, Tobi (Cameron) Kemp, and Randall (Susan) Deering and daughters, Kathy and Mandy. She is also survived by a brother, Ray (Emma) Yanke and his family; a sister, Linda (Larry) Weiss and her family; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Deering, Nellie Deering and Rosa Lehr as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Christof and Pauline Yanke; a son, Darrell and most of her in-laws. Melba, or Nana as she was affectionately called, loved and excelled in her role as a grandmother. She was extremely proficient in house design and construction, sewing, embroidery, hardinger, quilting, gardening, cooking, baking and she dabbled in drawing and painting. She will be remembered by many friends and acquaintances as the friendly, efficient cashier at the Co-op Store. A Commemorative Ceremony in Melba's honour, will be held at the Elks Lodge, 305 - 3rd Street N.W., Medicine Hat on Monday, August 18, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Diane Beach officiating. Nana will be laid to rest beside her husband at a private family interment at Hillside Cemetery earlier this day. If friends so desire, those wishing to offer an expression of sympathy by means of a donation may do so to an organization of their choosing.

EMMA DUXBURY
Dec. 21, 1915 - Dec. 21, 2006
It is with sadness that the family of Miss Emma Duxbury, an unclaimed treasure as she jokingly referred to herself, announces her passing at the age of 91 years. Emma's career encompassed working at both Medalta Potteries and the CPR from which she retired. Emma's interests over the years included helping her friend, Charlie Gower, with his quality testing of linseed oil, operating a ham radio and maintaining her frugal ways. Her family and friends appreciated Emma for her sharp sense of humour. She was predeceased by her beloved brothers, Frank and Bill. Emma is survived by both sisters-in-law, Mollie and Margaret. She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews, Darlene, Glen (Carol), Dave (Linda), Ken (Lori), Mary Hogan (Lonnie) and Wayne (Sheila). In accordance to Emma's wishes, a memorial service in her honour will be held at a later date. Emma's family wishes to thank the many staff and volunteers at Valleyview for the care and attention she received. We would also like to thank Dr. McClelland, Dr. Jeraj and their staff for the care she received from them.

JOHN DYCK
1926 - 2007
Mr. John Henry Dyck passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, August 27, 2007, at the age of 80 years. He was predeceased by his wife Doris in 2001. Loved ones surviving John include his good friend and companion, Eileen Kakuk; son, Cal (Bonnie) Dyck of Medicine Hat; daughter, Anita Berisha of Victoria, BC.; five grandchildren, Jacquie (Mike), Carla (Shaun), Dan, Sherri and David, as well as four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Lauren, Evan and Makenna. John lived in Medicine Hat for the greater part of his life, but also enjoyed living in Calgary for a number of years. A Memorial Service will be celebrated at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, August 31, 2007, at 2:30 P.M. with Gary W. Goran officiating. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 102 Crestwood Square One, 1865 Dunmore Rd. S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 1Z8.

MARGARET ANN DOUGLAS
1936 - 2007
Mrs. Margaret Ann Douglas, beloved wife of Mr. Ron Douglas, passed away at Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Sunday, September 2, 2007, at the age of 70 years. Ann leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Jill Leahy and her children, Tony and Kara and their father Bernie Leahy; Susan Wright and her son Jesse; son, Paul (Kaylene) Douglas and their daughter, Elle. She is also survived by her brother, Robert (Gail) Pender; sister, Lorna (Reg) Phaff; sister-in-law, Irene Pender; cousins, Marg and Alice Middleton as well as numerous other extended family. Ann was predeceased by her parents, Winifred and Percy Pender and one brother, Hugh Pender. Family and friends gathered privately to celebrate Ann's life at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Friday, September 7, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Gary W. Goran officiating. KEN DESJARLAIS
2007
Ken passed away in Medicine Hat, Alberta Tuesday September 18, 2007, after a hard fought battle with cancer. Ken's legacy lives on through his beloved wife Joan and his sons Matt, David and Jeffrey. He will also be missed by his mother Ann; brothers, Jean and Glenn; extended family and many friends. Throughout Ken's career, he pursued new challenges and opportunities with enthusiasm. He was a hard working man ending his career working at Colt Engineering in the oil and gas industry, specializing in pipeline design and construction. To all who knew him, Ken was their 'go to man', always willing to lend a hand. Ken may no longer be with us in person but he will be watching over us. A celebration of Ken's life will be held at Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Road S.E., Medicine Hat, on Monday September 24 at 1:00 PM with Reverend Father Alphonse Narisetty celebrant. In deference to Ken, let's wear jeans.
