PAT ANDREWS (NEE HOGAN)
March 21, 1950 - October 28, 2009
Nathan, Nickolas, Maria, Joseph (fiancé Amanda Turner), Jonathan and Emily sadly share the news of their mother’s passing, Patricia Ann Andrews (nee Hogan), on Thursday, October 28, 2009 at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, after a long battle with cancer. Pat’s memory will also be treasured by her five brothers, Jim (Lynne Douglas) of Qualicum Beach, B.C.; Bill (Delores) of Saskatoon, SK.; Tim (Marg) of Sherwood Park, AB.; Gerry (Pearl) of New Westminster, B.C.; Terry (Darcy Kozak) of Edmonton, AB.; her only sister, Chris (Tim) Streisel of Lethbridge, AB.; her step daughter, Melissa (Ernest) McCutcheon of Calgary, AB.; Thomas Devine, a long time family friend who loved the bustle of the Andrews household; as well as many nieces and nephews. Pat was predeceased by her parents, Emma and Will Hogan, of Saskatoon, SK.

Born and raised in Saskatoon, Pat was educated at St. Phillip Elementary, Holy Cross High School, and the University of Saskatchewan. In 1970 Pat started teaching Grade 5 at Sacred Heart Elementary in Regina. She returned to the U of S in 1973 to complete her Education degree before returning to Regina to teach Grades 3 and 4 as well as the Resource Room. In 1976 Pat moved to Swift Current, SK. to teach Grade 5 and Resource Room at St. Joseph’s until her good friend Starr Harding, of Saskatoon, convinced her she’d love to teach Grade 1. Pat took this advice and also became Vice Principal at St. Joseph’s. In 1982, Pat moved to Medicine Hat to be near her sister Chris and her family, thus beginning a 20+ year career as a Grade 1 teacher in Redcliff at I.F. Cox and Margaret Wooding Elementary Schools. The hundreds of children over the years who learned to read because of Pat’s dedication are a testament to her ability and dedication as a teacher. She had a true gift to see and to bring out the best in everyone.

On St. Patrick’s Day in 1984 at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Medicine Hat, Pat married Larry Andrews. Between 1985 and 1989 their children were born and Pat continued teaching in Redcliff. Life became fuller with school councils, sports (especially soccer for the kids), music lessons, and inevitably, Pat became a very capable taxi-driver. Her children still wonder how she had time to bake, every day, for their lunches, but she did. The Andrews clan attended St. Patrick’s R.C. Church where over the years Pat taught RCIA, assisted with sacramental retreats, Baptism classes and Godtime. In 2000, Pat divorced and in 2001 she received her Annulment.

The family extends special thanks to Pat’s close friends especially Di McCluskey, Susan Schneider and Margaret Devine who helped care for her so lovingly; to the nursing staff in the Palliative Care Unit of Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and to Dr. Sandra Duke and Dr. Josh Foley.

Interment will take place on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Hillside Cemetery. 1919 - 2009
Our much loved father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, special friend and comrade to many, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital while surrounded by family and friends on July 9, 2009. Nibs was predeceased by his wife, Anne on November 30, 1994, and his daughter, Carol Anne on September 10, 1972, as well as brothers, William, Fred and Frank. He is survived by his sons, George and Alan; devoted daughters-in-law, Jeanette and Shirley; grandchildren, Kristin (Greg) Olynyk, David (Veronica), Danny (Chelsea) and great-grandchildren, Samantha, Carter, Tristan and Elizabeth, as well as his sister, Ethel (Alex) Glowa. Nibs and Anne lived in Medicine Hat until 1952. Nibs worked at Central Motors until leaving for Taber in 1952, where he purchased the Ford dealership. He returned to Medicine Hat in 1961, became an active member of the Kiwanis Club and was employed by Reidy Ford until 1966. Nibs and Anne moved to Prince George in 1966, where Nibs was general sales manager for Fred Walls and Son. He retired in 1986 and returned to Medicine Hat where he has lived on McCutcheon Drive until his passing. Nibs was proud to have served Canada as a member of the RCAF in WWII. He took an active interest in the Royal Canadian Legion in both Medicine Hat and Prince George where he served on the Executive of both branches. In recognition of his dedication and tireless efforts on behalf of the Legion, Nibs was awarded a Life Membership in the Prince George branch. He was an enthusiastic and tireless volunteer, officer and participant in the Medicine Hat Legion, through which he enjoyed the treasured friendship and comradeship of all members. The Legion became his second home and it's members his second family. He will be greatly missed and difficult to replace by the Robertson Memorial Branch of the Legion. Nibs took up the game of golf in his seventies and was a member of the Cottonwood Golf Club for 15 years. He was an avid Tiger hockey fan as a season ticket holder for 20 years. While in Taber, Nibs, in addition to operating the Ford garage, served his community as Athletic Director of the town, and as President of the Lions Club. His entire working life involved the sales of Ford and Mercury vehicles. He was the recipient of many awards and commendations as a result of his sales and managerial achievements and upon his retirement, was recognized by the President of Ford Canada for his efforts and achievements. The family wishes, on behalf of Dad and themselves, to recognize with gratitude and pleasure the extraordinary friendship and loyalty of special friends, Val Hopkins, George Cocks, 'Specs' Hamilton and neighbors Elaine and Wayne Barnes, all of whom were treasured by Dad and who treasured him. Their relationships exhibited the best of friendship. On April 19, Dad celebrated his 90th birthday by hosting a party attended by 175 people. It was expressed by many of those attending that they might be hard pressed to name 175 people they know ~ much less having 175 friends attend their party. Dad lived a long and full life, and in remarkably good health with the exception of his last month. He accomplished most if not all of what he wanted. Nibs traveled extensively. He had a caring and loving family as well as a bountiful number of close friends. Nibs loved the Legion and the Legion loved him. "Well done Dad! We will miss you terribly." The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at 10:00 A.M. with Captains Ron and Joyce MacDonald officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. As part of the funeral, the officers and members of the Royal Canadian Legion will conduct a Poppy Service in honour of their departed comrade. DONALD J. ANDERSON
1936 - 2009
Mr. Donald James Anderson of Redcliff, beloved husband of Mrs. Deanna Anderson, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at the age of 72 years. Donald was born on July 24, 1936 in Boissevain, Manitoba. He was raised in Manitoba before coming west to Medicine Hat. While there, he met and later married Deanna on December 5, 1959. The new couple made Redcliff their home and formed many lasting friendships over the years. He enjoyed the company of many friends while at the Redcliff Hylton and as a member of the Redcliff Royal Canadian Legion Br. # 6. In 2001, he retired as a loyal employee for the Town of Redcliff after 23 years of service. Don liked to go camping and fishing at numerous lakes but his favorite fishing hole was at the Reesor Lake dock. During his life there were many memorable occasions, but some of the most noteworthy included his 25th Anniversary, the births of his sons, Ronald on June 11, 1960 and Sean Anderson on August 13, 1970 and the births of his grandchildren. Donald loved his family and he will be dearly missed by his wife, Deanna; son, Sean Anderson (Deb Coroluick); daughter-in-law, Loretta Anderson (Brent Early); grandchildren, Michael Anderson (Erika Schmaltz), Montana Anderson and Devon Anderson; brothers and sisters, Evelyn (John) Collings, Shirley Anderson, Gene Diment and Rod (Mavis) Diment; mother-in-law, Ruth Dumont; brother-in-law, Leonard (Pat) Dumont; sister-in-law, Cindy (Doug) Murray; sister-in-law, Sandy (Dwayne) Pfeifer as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his mother, Delima Diment; step-father, Ernest Diment; father-in-law, John Dumont; father, James Clark Anderson; brother, Lyle Anderson and a son, Ronald James Anderson. Pauline Faith (Fay) Anderson, beloved companion of the late Walter Crockford, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, April 21, 2008 at the age of 73 years. Fay was born in Ontario on January 3, 1935. Following her primary schooling, she continued her education receiving a degree in nursing. This was the beginning of a long career as an RN. Fay developed an interest in antiques of all kinds. Following the passing of her close companion, Walter, her health began to deteriorate. Fay is survived by her children; brothers and sisters; grandchildren and chosen grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Casey Aasman of Medicine Hat, beloved son of Ina and the late Casey Aasman, peacefully went to be with the Lord, on Saturday, July 12, 2008, at the age of 42 years. Along with his mother Ina, Casey is survived by two children, Laura and Lisa; two brothers, Art (Geri) Aasman and Brian Aasman; two sisters, Helena (Stan) Mastel and Hettie (John) Hooft, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Casey Aasman in January of 1992. Casey graduated from Medicine Hat High School and attended Olds College. He went on to various jobs, enjoying the comradery of the many people he met. He was always willing to lend a hand, and enjoyed discussing sports and work. A Memorial Service celebrating Casey's life will be held at the Christian Reformed Church, 300 Primrose Drive S.E., Medicine Hat on Monday, July 21, 2008, at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor George Koopmans officiating.

TONY JAMES AASMAN
1961 - 2008
In his own words, 'I'm going to take this one for the team', and it is with heavy hearts that we announce that Anthony 'Tony' James Aasman, beloved husband of Jaylene and 'Dad' to Ryan and Jayna, peacefully passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital while surrounded by his family and friends on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the age of 47 years. Tony was born in Medicine Hat on January 20, 1961 and was welcomed by his parents, James and Jackie Aasman. He attended Riverside School, grades one through six and graduated from Crescent Heights High School. On September 5, 1987, he married Jaylene Lanz and recently celebrated their 21st anniversary. For a period of time, Tony worked along side his Dad as a painter and was a long time employee of Purolater Courier. During this time he met many people making deliveries and will be remembered for his jovial nature and someone who loved to talk. Tony had many interests which included music, football and of course, hockey. He served the community of Medicine Hat as an ambassador for the game of Hockey, and served well. He dedicated himself as a coach for many years and not only knew his stuff, but believed in the game. Tony was instrumental in developing young kids into strong athletes and this is supported by Ryan's success and those of many others Tony had coached. Tony held some very special memories which including winning the 1998-1999 Bantam AA playoffs, seeing his younger brother, Cal play for the Spokane Chiefs in 1987, the annual 'Puckmasters 4 on 4 Tourney' that he started 7 years ago and recently, the opportunity to coach the Tigers vs the Prince Albert Raiders in a charity event backed by the community. He was very proud of his family and marks the birth of his children, Jayna and Ryan as the most special times of his life. He was excited to see Jayna make the Volleyball team and Ryan be drafted into the WHL. Although the halls of the rinks won't be the same without Tony, his inspiration will carry on from generation to generation. Although he would say 'I'm the most blessed man on the face of the earth', it was Tony that blessed and enriched the lives of those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his wife, Jaylene (nee Lanz); children, Ryan and Jayna; parents, Jackie Aasman and John and Phyllis Lanz; a brother, Hank Aasman, sister, Nellie (Don) Hallett - Chantel (Mike Timchuk) and Josh; sister, Pat (John) Carpenter - Kristin (David Schlemko) and Chelbey; Cal (Cheryl) Aasman - Logan and Kayleigh and a brother-in-law, Troy (Sandra) Lanz - Tania and Tyson as well as many, many friends. It is with deep sadness that the family announce the passing of Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Arndt, of Okotoks, beloved wife of the late Mr. Reinhardt Arndt, on Sunday, September 28, 2008 at the age of 80 years. She passed away peacefully at the Foothills Country Hospice near Okotoks, Alberta. Helen was the youngest child born to Christ and Susan Kandt on May 20, 1928. She was raised on a farm near Maple Creek, Saskatchewan and later moved to the village of Golden Prairie. She married Reinhardt Arndt on October 16, 1947 and they farmed and lived in the Golden Prairie district. In 1983 they retired to Medicine Hat. When Dad died in 1994, Helen moved to Okotoks to be close to her children. She lived five doors down from Donna and Tom. We made up for lost time and had so much fun with her. Mom became an integral part of our family. After surviving major surgery in 2001, every day was a gift. She was good to us and we cherished her. Simple pleasures consisted of going to Tim Hortons for coffee everyday and then to our favorite restaurants or cooking supper together. We will miss her dearly. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Donna and husband Tom Materi; their son, Robert of Okotoks; daughter-in-law, Bonny Arndt; her children, Jesse, Brianne and Rayelle of Calgary; sisters-in-law, Toini and Emma Kandt, Esther Hagel, Betty Arndt, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her husband Reinhardt in 1994; son, William (Bill) in 1998; her parents Christ and Susan Kandt; all her siblings; Lenora Mulhbeier, Arthur, Paul, and Herbert Kandt. In keeping with Helen's request and sensibilities, no funeral service will be held. A private family graveside service will take place next to Reinhardt at Hillside Cemetery, with Reverend Barrett Scheske officiating. 'Rest in peace dearest mother, grandmother and best friend. You will live in our hearts forever."

DOUGLAS HARRISON (HOOLIHAN) ABBOTT
1961 - 2008
Douglas Harrison (Hoolihan) Abbott of Medicine Hat, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the age of 46 years. Doug was born on December 7, 1961 in Ottawa, Ontario. At a young age, he moved with his family to Calgary where he graduated from Central Memorial High School in 1979. Following high school he attended the U of A for 3 years, studying engineering. Doug was self motivated and operated his own painting business before working for Andres' Winery in Calgary. Previously being self employed was of interest to Doug, so, with his intellect and determination, he started a business in the oil service industry with branches in Calgary and later, Medicine Hat. He was mechanically inclined and enjoyed working on his cars and go-karts. As a perfectionist, all of his 'toys' ran smoothly, including the model train sets that he set-up in great detail. He was proud of his son, Max and moved to Medicine Hat to be close to him. This was a move that proved to be beneficial for both Max and Doug. He was a fun loving man who cared deeply for his family and friends. Although a private man by nature, those who knew him will remember him for his light-hearted ways and great sense of humor. His spirit will live on in the hearts of his family including his mother, Lois (James) Abbott of Calgary and father, Harrison Douglas Hoolihan of Ottawa; his son whom he was very proud of, Max (McKinley) Keyko of Medicine Hat along with his mother, Holly; brothers and sisters, Sandy (Chris) Stephens of Calgary, David (Isabelle) Abbott of Medicine Hat, Heather (Gary) Foucault of Calgary, Daniel (Orlene) Abbott of Kelowna, Brian (Kim) Abbott of Falkland, B.C. and Linda Abbott (George) of Richmond, B.C. as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. ESTHER C. L. ANDERSON
1919 - 2007
Esther Charlotte Louise Anderson of Medicine Hat, passed away while in the comfort of her home with her daughter, Carol Ann Ross and Denise Robert (Grande Prairie) by her side on Friday, March 9, 2007 at the age of 87 years. Esther was born in Box Springs, AB. on the family homestead. She started her lifelong sales career selling jewelry at Woolworth's in Medicine Hat. After her marriage to Curtis Patrick Ross (Bow Island) they moved to Calgary where Carol Ann was born. While Curtis served in the RCAF, as many women did during WWII, Esther stepped in to fill a man's job and sold advertising for the CALGARY ALBERTAN and was recruited to sell life insurance for Canada Life Assurance Co. In 1945, she and Carol Ann moved to Medicine Hat where she continued to sell insurance and then in 1955 moved back to Calgary. In the mid 1960's, she assumed the role of Marketing and Public Relations for the new Holiday Inn and her campaign promoting it as the "Home of the Outdoor Sportsman" won a North American sales award. Esther organized the grand opening of the Sheraton Hotel in Calgary and stayed on to market the property. In 1970, she returned to Medicine Hat to look after her mother. From here she went on the road as the first "female carpetbagger" selling a furniture line; territory covering B.C. and Alberta. She then was a manufacturers' rep for lighting fixtures and fireplace accessories; territory B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan. She married Harold C. Torgerson in 1975 and retired in 1976. The home on Maple Avenue was a buzz with entertaining; their lawn parties were famous. During this time she was part of the Ladies Shrine Clown Unit and Daughters of the Nile. They became "snowbirds" and wintered in Rancho Mirage, CA., where they were active ambassadors for Alberta Tourism, traveling to Arizona, Texas and Southern California promoting Alberta. Esther's famous quote was: "Live life to the fullest and give back where you can". During the 1940's, she was a founding member of the Quota Club in Medicine Hat, and always active in the Vasa Lodge (setting a provincial record for most memberships sold). Northwest Travelers Association presented her in 2006, with an award for 35 years continuous membership. Other club affiliations included President of the Canadian Club and Junior Achievement, Medicine Hat Historical Society, but her real love was the Multicultural Folk Arts Council. Her proudest achievement was implementing the plan for the Gazebo in Rotary Park. Initially she wanted to build a gazebo in her back yard but then decided to enlarge the concept and share it with the citizens of Medicine Hat. Esther sang with the Veiner Singers and loved dancing. Whenever the music started, she was the first to be asked to dance and sailed around the floor. To round out her dancing enjoyment, she took tap dancing lessons on the desert. In the early 1990's, Esther participated in a local Elementary School History Program. She thrilled students with stories of "the olden days" in Medicine Hat. Pupils were fascinated with her storytelling, period dress and colorful props. In addition, modeling became another "string on her bow" when she modeled for Raber's Fashions. She is featured in the mural above the old store. Esther was a class-taught student of Christian Science, active in the Calgary and Medicine Hat churches. Esther shot from the hip - she was honest, trustworthy, dependable, generous, kind with a razor sharp wit. She was the embodiment of networking; always putting people together for mutual good. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Ann Ross, Padey (nee MacKenzie) LaPointe (Gilles) of Bonnyville, AB.; Cathy (John) Sutter of Medicine Hat; Nattacia (Jurgen) Mantei of Calgary; George (Lynn Howard) MacKenzie of Calgary; Bruce (Lisa) MacKenzie of Whiterock, B.C.; Carl (Helena) Torgerson of Medicine Hat, Randy (Melinda) Torgerson of Bradenton, Florida; sisters-in-law, Florence (Alan) Anderson of Medicine Hat, Ethel (Phil) Ross of Lethbridge, Marg (Carl) Ross of Surrey, B.C., Ressa Raber of Medicine Hat; nephews, John (Laurie) Anderson of Calgary and Doug (Karen) Anderson of Sherwood Park as well as numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren. WILLIAM 'BILL' ARMSTRONG

While in the presence of his family, William 'Bill' Armstrong passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Friday, August 17, 2007. Bill was born on May 17, 1949 in Stettler, Alberta, a son to Wendell and Ruby Armstrong. In 1967 he moved to Calgary and in 1969 started his career with Canadian Pacific Railway. Ever proud to be a railroader, Bill retired in December of 2004. To celebrate his life and cherish his memory, Bill leaves his wife, Paula; children, Janine (Steve) Melvin of Calgary and Rick (Heather) Armstrong of Medicine Hat. Special memories will be passed on to his grandchildren, Chase and Lauren Melvin and Kian and Reid Armstrong. Bill also leaves one sister, Ellen (Bryden) Madore and their children, Sydney and Cody of Medicine Hat. He was predeceased by one son, Shane; parents, Wendell and Ruby Armstrong. Mr. Floyd Patrick Anderson of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of Alwyn Anderson, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at the age of 67 years. Floyd was born and raised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. On December 29, 1966, he married Alwyn. Floyd was a patriotic man who served his country for 17 years (1956 - 1973) in the Canadian Military, attaining the rank of Warrant Officer. He was a proud member of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI), serving as a paratrooper with A Company, 2PPCLI and as a UN peacekeeper in Cyprus. Following his discharge from the military, he worked a variety of jobs and most recently worked with Redi Enterprises to support independent living. He loved playing hockey in his youth, then coaching and watching as a spectator as he aged. As a faithful Saskatchewan Roughrider fan, he embodied "Rider Pride". Ribeye steak was his favorite dish, but any well done red meat would put a smile on his face. Floyd enjoyed old school rock and roll from the 50's. For the past three years he endured a valiant battle with cancer. Along with his wife Alwyn, he will be missed by his sons, Patrick (Amelia Correia) of Medicine Hat and Scott of Waterloo, Ontario; a sister, Kay Pruden of Prince Albert, SK. as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Floyd was predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Mary Anderson; brothers, William, Walter, Arthur and Clifford; and sisters, Beatrice, Ruby and Florence. The Funeral Service will be held at All-Saints Anglican Church, 606 - 12 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Saturday, February 11, 2006, at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Ronda Ploughman officiating. Interment will follow at a later date. 1948 - 2006
It is with sad hearts we announce the passing of our Mother, Nana, Sister and dear friend, Phyllis Elizabeth Alford on October 4, 2006 at the age of 58. Phyllis will be lovingly remembered and missed by her children, Walter Matheson with children Rebecca and Jerad, Harvey Matheson with children Jordan, Sierra and Taylor, Christine (Tim) Garnham with child Teaghan. She will also be sadly missed by her siblings she held so dear, Shirley Reimer, Mary (Ken) Lippert, Ernie (Sharon) Reimer, Clarence (Sandi) Reimer, Bill (Kathy) Reimer, Jim (Charlene) Reimer, Harvey Reimer, Meg (Pat) Laevens, Beverley (Rusty) Mingo, Bill (Kathy) Reimer as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, Aunts and Uncles. Phyllis was predeceased by her father Cornelius in 1980; sister Violet and brother-in-law Lorne in 1985, brother John in 1986, brother Harry in 1994, mother Maria in in 1995, sister-in-law Pam in 2004, and sister Pauline in 2004. Phyllis spent most of her life around Portage La Prairie. She was employed at the Manitoba Developmental Center for many years until she retired. Grandchildren were the ultimate joy in her life. She loved to do what 'Nana's' do best and loved them to the fullest...from attending their baseball games and having girls only make-up parties with Teaghan and any other girl that happened to be around to treating them to ice-cream cones even if it was bed time. Phyllis was well known by family and friends for her fabulous baking and scrumptious perogies. Phyllis loved the outdoors and spent many hours tending to her garden. She was a true friend and opened her time, heart and ear to anyone whom needed her. We will miss our mother, Nana, sister and friend dearly. Till we meet again dear Mom forever in our hearts. "Oh God, you are my God, and I will ever praise you". Lauren Anne Adcock loved when her daddy sang these words. On Monday, May 9, 2005, after a sudden illness, Lauren left us and is now safely in the arms of her heavenly Father. Lauren is dearly loved and missed by her parents, Johanna and Mark Adcock; sister, Emily; grandparents, Joyce and Gordon Adcock and Anne Kapteyn; as well as many aunts, uncles, relatives and friends. Her laughter, determination and curiosity had a profound impact on us all. Her parents thank the staff at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and the Alberta Children's Hospital who fought valiantly to save her. They are greatly comforted by the support and love shown by the congregation of Temple Baptist Church, and they wish to express their gratitude to everyone in the community for their kindness. The Graveside Service will be held at Hillside Cemetery on Saturday, May 14, 2005, at 10:30 A.M. Mr. Leo Anton of Medicine Hat formerly of Fox Valley, SK., beloved husband of the late Mrs. Gladys Anton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 23, 2005, at the age of 85 years. Mrs. Irene Anderson, beloved wife of the late Mr. Thomas R. Anderson of Medicine Hat, peacefully passed away while surrounded by her family at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at the age of 87 years. Mrs. Anderson was the youngest of nine children and is predeceased by her parents, Annie and John Weiss and all of her brothers and sisters. Irene leaves to cherish her memory her four children, Mary Eva (Albert) Link of Lethbridge, Thomas (Noreen) Anderson of Victoria, Bonnie (Butch) Insko of Medicine Hat and Dan (Carla) Anderson of Medicine Hat. Granny is also kept in the hearts of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Kelly (Kirk) Sharp of Innisfree and their son Shane; David (Jackie) Link of Lethbridge and their children Kelly and Kaitlynd; Richard (Jessie) Link of Halifax; Michael (Gisele) Link of Lethbridge and their son Joshua; Richard (Wendy) Anderson of Calgary and their son Thomas; Dan (Maureen) Anderson of Victoria and their children Emma and Sam; Lisa Anderson (Boyd) of Victoria and their children Vanessa, Tawnee and Kenton; Wendy Insko of Medicine and her daughter Brandi-Lynn; Steve Insko of Irvine; Kim Insko of Medicine Hat; Kelsey Anderson of Calgary and Haley Anderson of Calgary. She also leaves many nieces and nephews and their families. Irene was born in Gros Vendre, Alberta in 1918. She spent her early years growing up with her family on their farm in the Cypress Hills. After moving to Medicine Hat, she met Tommy and were married in Medicine Hat where they raised their family. In the years after the passing of her husband, Irene loved to spend her time with her friends and family. She enjoyed teaching all of her secrets of good German cooking and the fine art of knitting, crocheting and making quilts. Irene loved to drive and loved to drive fast, and after receiving her license late in life, it was always an adventure getting into a car with her. Irene passed her time playing cards, bingo, painting ceramics, tatting, doing jigsaw puzzles and listening to music. All of this, of course, paled in comparison to the joy she felt when she was trying to "win some money"! In her final years at the Cypress View Lodge, Irene made many friends and had many fond memories. She will be missed deeply by all who knew her. In Irene's honour, a Celebration of Life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13th Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Thursday, September 22, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. Irene's cremated remains will be interred with her husband at Hillside Cemetery. Mrs. Hilda Anhorn, beloved wife of the late Mr. Albert Anhorn, passed away in Medicine Hat on Friday, March 26, 2004, at the age of 92 years. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Donna (Art) Gehring of Medicine Hat and Betty (Richard) Fritzler of Etzikom; ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Hilda is also survived by two brothers, Hugo and Danny of Maple Creek; her daughters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Christina Heller; two sons, Norman and Harold; one grandson, Cory as well as four brothers and one sister. Hilda was born a daughter of John and Christina Heller in Irvine, Alberta, on October 13, 1911. Her family homesteaded in the Rocky Mount District in 1912, and this is where she received her education. She was married to Albert Anhorn on April 16, 1936. Together they farmed in the Hatton District until 1969, and retired to Medicine Hat in 1974. Hilda loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and baking, playing cards and gardening, and will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends. CLARENCE ANDERSON
1916 - 2004
Mr. Clarence N. Anderson passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Saturday, April 17, 2004 at the age of 87 years. Clarence is survived by one brother, Ernie Anderson; two sisters, Alice (Donald) Kerr and Edith (Mike) Mulvihill all of Vancouver, B.C. as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Olive Anderson; one sister, Lillian Ost and one nephew, Eddie Ost. Clarence was born at the Medicine Hat Hospital on October 8, 1916. He was raised on the homestead north of Seven Persons and continued running the family farm and ranch until his retirement to Medicine Hat in 1976. Clarence experienced the beginnings of irrigation in the Seven Persons area as he grew corn and other feed crops for his cattle operation. He took much pride in his purebred Hereford cattle operation. For 28 years he was an active member in the Purebred Hereford Association as well as a member of the Quarter Century Canadian Hereford Association. He was a member of the Western Stock Growers since 1947 and in 1958, Clarence became a founding member of the Southern Alberta Purebred Breeders Association, which last year he was inducted as an Honorary Director. Since retiring to Medicine Hat, he spent his time gardening and fishing in the spring and summer and hunting and canning in the fall. The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13th Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Thursday, April 22, 2004 at 1:30 P.M. with Reverend Barrett Scheske officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
