JAMES
HILDENBRAND
April 18, 1927 - June 5, 2008

Beloved husband and father, James Hildenbrand passed
away in Calgary at Foothills Hospital on June 5, 2008.
Like the veteran he was, Jim fought long and hard, but
finally succumbed to a number of health issues. He was
born in Medicine Hat on April 18, 1927, to Ludvig and
Emily Hildebrand. Dad served in the Canadian Navy and
was always proud of his veteran status. He married
Virginia Anderson in 1948; they moved to Taber and
together they raised three children. For thirty years
Dad worked for the sugar factory in Taber where he made
life-long friends while also refereeing hockey, umpiring
baseball, and organizing minor sports. Right up to the
end, Dad worked tirelessly for the Lions in both Taber
and Medicine Hat. They retired to Medicine Hat and
avoided many of our Alberta winters, motorhoming and
making good friends in the warmth of the southern
states. He was the official popcorn maker at Yuma’s
Arizona West for many years.
With Mom’s help, Dad gracefully aged while his faith
grew strong and clear. Though his hearing had been
practically gone for many years (he said that it helped
him referee and ump), he seemed to be very aware of the
needs in his community and church, and responded with
kindness and generosity, making a difference in many
people’s lives.
He was predeceased by son, Robert; sister and
brother-in-law, Irene and Ed Gallacher; and
sister-in-law, Doris Hildenbrand. Left to celebrate his
memory include: wife, Virginia; sister, Ruby Milligan
(Ian); brother, Jack; son, Don (Henny); daughter, Deb
(Brian Kay); grandchildren, Scott Hildebrand (Krista);
Erik Hildebrand; Corina Gelmon (Michael); Taylor Kay;
and great-grandchildren, Olivia and Naomi Gelmon.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday June
9, at Victory Lutheran Church, 2793 Southview Dr. SE,
Medicine Hat, with Pastor Loren Hosfield officiating.
If friends so desire, memorial gifts may be sent to The
Building Fund, Victory Lutheran Church.

IRMA
HARDY
March 24, 1919 - February 15, 2008

Mrs. Irma Ella Hardy (nee Keck), beloved wife of the
late Mr. Larry Hardy, passed away peacefully in Medicine
Hat on Friday, February 15, 2008.
Irma will be deeply missed by her son Gordon (Gail)
Hardy of Calgary, grandson Charles Biss of Vernon BC,
granddaughter Georgina (Rob) Walker and her new
great-granddaughter Ruby Walker of Okotoks and her
sisters and brother Eleanor Mudry, Ed Keck and Agnes
(Lorne) Wiley all of Medicine Hat. Irma will be dearly
missed by her cherished nieces and nephews and their
families, and by her dear friends and their families on
Vancouver Island.
Irma was predeceased by her sister Amanda "Mandy"
McDonald. After moving into Medicine Hat from the farm
as a young woman of 17, Irma began an eventful life of
work, family and play. Irma and Larry Hardy were married
in Banff in 1949 and after a number of years of work
that took them to such places as the Bahamas, Chicago,
Thunder Bay, Vancouver and Victoria, settled as a family
in Nanaimo BC in 1954. Irma continued working, attending
to her family and being involved with her friends and
community. Upon her retirement at age 65 from Malaspina
College she redefined the "Art of Walking", entertained
friends and family with the most flavorful slowly cooked
food around and traveled here and there to visit places
she had always wanted to see and to catch up with
relatives and friends. Her travel was sometimes very
purposeful such as when the Expo was being held in
Vancouver. She traveled back and forth from Nanaimo each
day and is believed to have seen every exhibit at least
once if not twice! In 1992 she found herself back in
Medicine Hat living up on Crescent Heights. Here she was
closer to her family in Alberta and everyone was able to
get together more easily. She continued to travel back
to Vancouver Island each year to stay connected with
that large part of her life. Irma loved to sing, to
dance and listen to music. She was a fierce competitor
at cards and scrabble and shuffleboard, any game really
(if you're going to play, you might as well play to
win!). I always heard she was "a real sweet lady". I'll
miss you Mom.
Relatives and friends are invited to a come and go
luncheon in celebration of Irma's life to be held at
Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W.,
Medicine Hat, on Saturday, February 23, 2008, between
11:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M. Memorial tributes in memory of
Mrs. Irma Hardy may be made through the Alzheimer's
Society of Alberta, 833A Kingsway Avenue S.E., Medicine
Hat, Alberta, T1A 2X5.

HILDE
HAEBERLE
1925 - 2007

Mrs. Hilde Haeberle passed away peacefully in the
company of those who loved her, on Monday, July 30, 2007
at the age of 82 years.
Hilde leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Wolfgang
and Rolf, her daughter in laws, Patty and Brenda, and
her granddaughters, Holly, Kirsten, Keelin, and Deirdre,
and her nieces, nephews and families in Germany. Her
husband, Bernhardt, her parents and her three brothers,
predeceased Hilde. Hilde was born June 24, 1925
and raised in Germany. She immigrated to Canada with her
husband and son in 1957. Hilde settled with her family
in Leader, Saskatchewan in 1964 and this became her home
until her husband's passing. Hilde enjoyed her
community, friends and work at the Leader library.
Due to her Alzheimer's, Hilde moved to Medicine Hat and
resided at South Country Village under the
excellent care of the staff in the Sunny View unit and
the Heritage Day Program. It was truly a blessing that
despite her illness, Hilde's unique sense of humor and
her gentle nature remained with her until the very end.
Hilde was a simple woman in all the best connotations of
the word. She was straightforward, direct, sincere, and
lacking in deceitfulness. She cherished and enjoyed all
of life's simplest pleasures; sunsets and snowfalls, a
cup of tea with a neighbor or friend, a taste of good
chocolate, singing to her granddaughters, a letter from
a loved one, listening to CBC radio, and many quiet
moments spent with a good book. With her love of
life's simple offerings she desired to share her
perspective with others in very simple ways; teaching a
yoga and German cooking class, being the first mom to
swim in the town pool and ride a bicycle about Leader.
Welcoming new families, taking in birds with broken
wings, and
offering a gentle touch and a listening ear to whoever
was in need. Hilde's simple nature and her quiet,
patient, and loving spirit will be missed and fondly
remembered by all. " So many people aspire all their
life to create the perfect moment and completely forget
to live in the moment", Hilde recognized this and spent
her life appreciating what many of us miss.
As per Hilde's wishes, no formal funeral proceedings
will take place.
Anyone wishing to remember Hilde may do so with a
charitable gift to the Leader Library, 151 - 1st St. W.,
Leader, Saskatchewan, S0N 1H0, where for many years she
was affectionately known as Mrs. Library.

MARTHA
HARBACK
1933 - 2006

Martha Irene Harback of Bow Island, passed away while
surrounded by the love of her Alfred Egan Home family,
on Thursday, December 28, 2006, at the age of 73 years.
Martha is survived by 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
Martha was born February 1, 1933 in Valleyview, Alberta.
She lived at home with her family until moving to the
Michener Centre in Red Deer, Alberta in 1945. In
1993, Martha moved to the Alfred Egan Home in Bow Island
where she met many friends who will miss her.
Martha enjoyed people, traveling and parties. She had a
great sense of humour which she expressed by laughing at
herself and at the staff. Martha always enjoyed
going on vacation, whether it was a day trip or an
overnight stay. One of the highlights of her life
was an Alaskan cruise. While going on this trip,
Martha had the opportunity to experience several
different modes of transportation. She was able to
fly on an airplane , ride on a bus, and float on a ship.
She took pleasure in seeing many of the sights at
various ports and was able to purchase several
souvenirs. One of these items was a doll wearing a
fur coat which was added to her doll collection.
Martha loved babies and enjoyed visiting with children.
She would very gently hold and kiss babies before giving
them back to their mother. At Christmas, staff
remembers Martha pointing to the Christmas tree angel
and affectionately calling it "tree baby". It
seems very appropriate that Martha was called home to be
with her maker at her favorite time of year, Christmas.
She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by the
staff and friends at Alfred Egan Home.
A Celebration of Martha's Life will be held at the
Alfred Egan Home, 1st Street East, Bow Island on
Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at 2:00 p.m with Reverend
Gary Aicken officiating.
Interment will follow at the Bow Island Cemetery.

EDWARD WALTER
HEEG
1923 - 2006

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of
our dear Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend. Ed
Heeg passed away peacefully on October 24, 2006 in the
Sunny View Care Center in Medicine Hat at the age of 82
years.
Ed was born on December 29, 1923 in Estuary Saskatchewan
as the oldest of four sons born to Gottfried and Mary
Heeg. After spending some time in Estuary the family
moved to the farm southwest of town. Ed attended
Saskedge School; a country school two and a half miles
from home. Together
with his three brothers, Ed learned the three R's at
Saskedge, but they also learned how to play baseball and
as he grew older baseball was a big part of his life. He
played many games for Empress Baseball teams becoming
well known as an excellent catcher. Ed also began his
life long vocation of
farming. In 1941, together with his Father and Brothers,
he purchased a section of land in the Acadia Valley
area. In 1948 they purchased the Moore farm
southwest of Acadia Valley. This farm was Ed's pride and
joy and remained so for his entire life. On July
5, 1950 Ed married Ida Gill. They lived on the farm in
the summer time and in Empress in the winter. Like his
Mom and Dad, Ed and Ida were blessed with four sons: Ken
born in 1951, Howard born in 1954, Larry born in 1958,
and Tim born in 1971. In 1967 Ed, Ida and family moved
to Medicine Hat and commuted to the farm in the busy
seasons. In 1976 they decided that the farm was the
place they wanted to live so they built a new house and
returned to the farm. They tried semi-retirement in 1995
but the farm was always calling Ed and in 2003 they
returned to the farm once again. They lived there until
Ed's failing health forced his move to the Sunny View
Care Centre in Medicine Hat on September 26, 2006.
Ed had a deep love for his family, Agriculture,
especially the cattle industry, but most of all for his
Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Wherever he lived, Ed
was always involved with the Church Council holding
many different offices over the years. In the
later years Ed got a lot of enjoyment from watching
sports, especially hockey on T.V., and was an avid
Edmonton Oilers fan until his battle with dementia took
all that away from him.
Ed leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of fifty six
years, Ida; sons, Ken of Solvang, California, Howard
(Linda) of Phoenix Arizona, Larry (Rita) of Acadia
Valley, and Tim (April) of Acadia Valley;
grandchildren, Jim, Rhonda, Angela, Scott, Steven, Greg,
and Alli; brothers, Albert of Saskatoon, and Robert of
Burstall; sisters-in-law, Vi Anhorn and Pat Heeg of
Medicine Hat, and Dorothy Heeg of Saskatoon;
brother-in-law, Milton Gill (Helen) of Victoria, B.C.;
as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was
predeceased by his parents, Gottfried and Mary Heeg, his
brother, Herbert Heeg, as well as his parents-in-law,
August and Emma Gill, and sister-in-law, Mildred Heeg.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so one hour
prior to the Funeral Service will be held on Saturday,
October 28, 2006 at 1:00 pm in St. Paul Lutheran Church,
515, Sprague Way, S.E., Medicine Hat, with Pastor Fred
Rink officiating. Interment will follow at
Hillside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the
Lutheran Hour or St. Paul Lutheran Church building fund.
"Seek first the Kingdom of God and his Righteousness and
all these things shall be yours as well"
(Mt 6:33).
