EDITH
CLAY
March 11, 1910 - January 30, 2008

Mrs. Edith May Clay passed away on January 30th, 2008 in
the arms of her daughter, Sharon. Edith was born on
March 11, 1910, and lived her 97 years in Medicine Hat.
She was the eldest of the six children of Maude and
Ernest Townsend, and was predeceased by her five
siblings, Arthur, Stanley and Lawrence Townsend, Evelyn
Fabian and Irene Wing; her sisters-in-law, Helen
Townsend, Ella Clay and Marjorie Clay; her
brothers-in-law, Woodrow Wing, Cyril Clay and Reginald
Clay and nephews, Terry Townsend and Newton Cowan. She
is survived by two sisters-in-law, Mary Townsend and
Eleanor Townsend as well as many nieces, nephews and
friends. Edith considered herself the "matriarch" of her
family, and truly enjoyed any family gatherings. She
will be forever and greatly missed by her only daughter,
Sharon Clay. Edith married the love of her life, Earle
Clay, on January 30, 1942. She passed away on what would
have been their 66th anniversary. Their 18 short years
together were the happiest of her life. They enjoyed
archery, hiking, camping and photography. Earle passed
away on July 14, 1960, leaving Edith and Sharon to
continue on together. Edith dedicated her life to
helping Sharon achieve her goals. She returned to work
at Eaton's, followed by ten years at Oliver's Dry Goods.
Although Edith left school at 15 to care for her own
mother, she never lost her desire to learn. She was
always asking questions and wanted to know "all the
details". When she totally lost her eyesight, listening
to stories on tape or CD and listening to Sharon read
the NEWS each day, kept her mind active. She also
required detailed descriptions of any concert, play,
trip or activity in which Sharon was involved.
Edith was very devoted to Westminster United Church, and
for many years was an active member of the UCW. When her
health began to fail, Edith moved into Riverview Care
Centre in November of 2003, where she received loving
care from the dedicated staff.
Edith was a special lady who will be fondly remembered
by all who knew her.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Cook
Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine
Hat on Sunday, February 3, 2008, between 1:00 P.M. and
3:00 P.M. Relatives attending the Private Graveside
Service are invited to gather at Cook Southland Funeral
Chapel on Monday, February 4, 2008, at 9:30 A.M.

life at Westminster United Church, 101 - 6 Street S.E.,

ANNABELLE E.
COOK
September 12, 1915 - December 9, 2007

On Sunday, the 9th of December, a memorable woman, whose
first loves were music and dance, swayed to the bells of
heaven and sank gently, rhythmically, into the arms of
God.
A woman of passion and conviction. A woman to whom a
small act of kindness earned a wealth of gratitude.
Annabelle Elizabeth Cook (Lynch). Our mother, sister,
grandmother and aunt. One of three Irish, Catholic
sisters and five brothers, Annabelle was born and grew
to ripe young womanhood in the small and dusty Medicine
Hat of 1915. Her beauty and her zest for life caught the
eye of an alert young man who quickly put a ring on her
finger before leaving for England and the Second World
War. Roland John (Slim) Cook left more than his young
bride behind. Baby David was born while his soldier papa
was overseas. Anne held her child close, and waited four
long years for the return of her beloved. After the war,
Anne and Slim invited four more "Cooks" into their
expanding world; a world of gaiety, laughter and music.
The young war-bride soon found herself in the centre of
a large and vibrant family. In 1962, Anne and her
children, along with Ellen Lynch (her mother and the
children's grandmother) travelled with Slim to Winnipeg,
and started a new life amongst strangers in a big city
a brave act for a shy, small-town girl. Not
surprisingly, she made many close and enduring
friendships during the twenty years they lived and
worked in the centre of Canada. After the children had
grown and their work was done, Anne and Slim set sail
back across the prairies to the old hometown. They both
lived so happily here; gathering up the remains of
family and friends and throwing open their doors
to their robust brood of visiting children and
grandchildren. What was happiness to Annabelle?
Happiness was nothing more, but nothing less, than being
awash in the sounds (the music) of love. She took pride
in each and every one of us. She gave us her heart
unflinchingly. She put her trust
and her high hopes in us all. We have her to thank for
our zest for living and our respect for the lives we've
been given. She made us laugh; she was a kind, loyal and
infinitely complex and marvelous woman. Dance on,
Annabelle Elizabeth! Move amongst the stars with your
dearest of partners; your beloved Slim. Remembered
fondly and with great love by your children; David,
Susan, Patrick, Shelley and Sandra; grandchildren; Ron
(Mona), Randall, Michael, Thomas, Ellen, Dayna, Jyll,
Daniel, and great-grandsons, Rory and Alex, brother,
Mickey Lynch, Sister-in-law, June Cook; daughter-in-law
Shelley-Rae, sons-in-law Mario and Greg, nieces
Shirley-Ann, Donna and Barbara; nephews Bill (Gail) and
Dick; dear Wpg. friends, Charlotte, Wendy and Al, and
Cathy Boyer of the M.H. VON.
Annabelle was predeceased by her husband in 1995.
The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland
Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat
on Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at 2:00 P.M. Interment
will follow at a later date. Honourary pallbearers are
sons-in-law, Mario Guerra, Greg White and Bill Klasky.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to
the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital Palliative Care
Centre where Anne received such tender care, 666 - 5
Street S.W., Medicine Hat, T1A 4H6.

JOSHUA
CLEMENT-ANDERSON
2007

Beloved infant son of Christina Clement and James
Anderson of Medicine Hat, was called to heaven on
Thursday, June 14, 2007.
I'm just a little feller
Who didn't quite make it there;
I went straight to be with Jesus
But I'm waiting for you here.
Don't you fret about me Mommy,
I'm one of God's lambs most blessed;
I'd love to stay there with you,
But the Shepherd knows what's best.
Many dwell here where I live,
Waited years to enter in;
Struggled through a world of sorrow
And their lives were marred with sin.
So, sweet Mommy, don't you sorrow,
Wipe those tears and chase the gloom;
I went straight to Jesus' bosom
From my lovely Mother's womb.
Thank-you for the life you gave me,
It was brief, but don't complain;
I have all of Heaven's glory,
Suffered none of earthling's pain.

ANNIE CATHERINE
CROWLEY
June 25, 1925 - Oct. 30, 2005
Annie Catherine Marie Crowley, beloved wife of Raymond
Jeremiah Crowley of Medicine Hat died peacefully at home
on Sunday, October 30, 2005 at the age of 80 years.
It was a wonderful day for Annie as she happily
celebrated her 51st wedding anniversary surrounded by
her entire family. Annie also leaves to cherish her
memory six children, Rita-Rae Crowley, Matthew Crowley
(Nancy), Karen-Anne Cherwonogrodzky (John), Brigid
Bishop (Gary), Katie Lind (Trevor), Vincent Crowley
(Shauna); and seventeen grandchildren, Brendan, Derek
and Athena Crowley; Belinda Hogel (Cherwonogrodzky),
David, Christina and Catherine Cherwonogrodzky; Miles,
Jessica, Joel, Grace and Davis Bishop; Erica and Steven
Lind; Maiah, Cian and Ella Crowley. Annie was
predeceased by her parents, Madelaine & Joseph McKenna.
Annie was born on June 25, 1925 in Romance, SK. Her
father's job as Station Agent with the CPR, found
them living in several small communities in Alberta and
Saskatchewan, however she was primarily raised in Maple
Creek, SK. She loved listening to the train whistles at
night as they rolled by the station. Some of her fondest
childhood memories were of the summers spent at a
relatives potato farm on P.E.I. She was proud to return
home sporting the latest hair style and fashions from
Montreal. She
completed her high school education in Edmonton, while
boarding at St. Joseph convent. After graduation she was
employed in several different positions, but the
high-light of her working career was with the DND in
Toronto, Ottawa and Suffield. She made many long lasting
friendships during
these years. She married Raymond on October 30, 1954 at
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church in
Calgary. They settled in Medicine Hat shortly after and
she devoted her life to being a wife, home maker and a
stay at home mother of six. She relished the opportunity
to educate her children, teaching them in creative ways
to read, write and to develop an appreciation of music.
She believed a well rounded person required a background
in the fine arts. She herself achieved Grade Ten in both
piano and voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music,
and she used this talent to teach piano for a number of
years. Annie was very caring and always guided by her
deep faith in God. Her strong Catholic faith sustained
her through all the vicissitudes of life. She and Ray
gained strength from praying the rosary daily. She was
an active member of the Pro-Life Association for many
years and served as president for a period of time.
Annie was very creative, artistic, and fun loving, often
referring to herself as a "joker". She had a passion for
books and writing and received an award from Reader's
Digest for a piece she submitted. She worked as a
freelance writer for a variety of publications and
eventually started her own home desk-top publishing
business: Athena-Marie Publications. She pursued many
other interests over the years, including: gardening,
bird watching, hiking, knitting, cooking, photography,
classical music, fine arts, early childhood education,
and playing Scrabble and card games. Her children and
grandchildren have fond memories of her teaching them
how to play cards and other games. She enjoyed watching
them grow as individuals, supporting each of them in
their interests. A favorite past-time was watching her
grandchildren participate in sports, and also watching
hockey, figure skating, baseball and curling on TV
Ray and family offer their sincere gratitude to Dr.
Jeraj and staff at Crescent Heights Clinic, Dr. Foley
and staff at the Cancer Clinic, the Palliser Health
Region Home Care staff, the Palliative Care Society, as
well as the staff of the Medicine Hat Diagnostic Lab.
The family would appreciate that those wishing to
remember Annie do so with a gift to the PHR Home Care
Program or the Palliative Care Society. Ray's children
particularly want to express their gratitude to
their father for his tireless devotion to Annie, which
allowed her to remain at home throughout her illness.
Those wishing to pay their respects did so at Cook
Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine
Hat on Thursday, November 3, 2005, between 6:00 P.M. and
